I don't know much about this area, but I do know that it is near the Wissahickon. I am planning on moving, and am looking for an apartment in the area.
Can anyone recommend an area I should look around? My main priority is that I am able to WALK to the Wissahickon. I am looking to rent a studio or 1 bedroom. I don't want to spend more than $700/mo. I am not planning on buying a car, so I need to be near transportation and groceries, etc. Any streets I should look around? Any information is appreciated! |

There are several highrise apartment complexes near Wissahickon Ave, and Chelten Ave. Namely, Park Heights, Hathaway House and Alden Park. I used to rent a 1 bedroom at Park Heights for about $650 a month (nice apartment with A/C and dishwasher included). On Chelten Ave you will find grocery stores and a train station within walking distance, and you are minutes from the entrance to Wissahickon Park. Wissahickon Ave. is a beautiful area, but Chelten Ave gets a little dicey, the closer you get to Germantown Ave. However, I walked to and from Chelten Ave train station everyday for 3 years and never had a problem.

I used to live in the "School Lane House Apartments" I think the address was 437 W. School House Lane, near the corner of School House Lane and Wissahickon Ave. Dumpy...run down, and the super never fixes anything. But I had a big 1 bedroom for $460 including everything but electric 4 years ago.
