Default Northern Liberties, Bella Vista or Queen Village

All different and distinct neighborhoods, I know. However, I just moved here from Boston about two months ago and still looking for a place to buy. I lived in a part of Boston (Dorchester) that was being gentrified, etc. I do enjoy Philly and finding tons of new things to do - as people here are much friendlier and less reserved than those Puritans up North. So when my house/condo search began, I was looking at EVERY neighborhood and then narrowed it down to Bella Vista and/or Queen Village. I do like Washington Sq. West - but a bit out of my price range (as some places in Queen Village and Bella Vista are as well). Let me give you some info on me as your suggestion may depend on this: I am a single 30 year old who loves to eat out, go out for cocktails as well as do home improvements, etc. I've read alot of postings out here about the different neighborhoods but was hoping you can all share some personal experiences about the neighborhoods. Thanks so much!

Queens Village is my favorite neighborhood in Philly, regardless of price. I live in Pennsport, the next neighborhood over. If I could afford Queens Village I would have bought there. I'm thinking my next house will be there. Once I'm finished with all of my current remodeling projects. Finish and move on. That's my plan.

I can speak for Queen Village only a little as I just moved here. There are enough byobs to keep one busy for awhile. Too many to list in fact. Regarding going out for a cocktail or a decent beer, it's a little harder.

There are alot of green bartenders on this side of town. For example I was kind of pissed at cuba libre, old city, when they were training the hostess to make my manhatten. I would not expect that kind of customer disrespect in CC. I could be wrong...

My current drinking holes in the QV area

-New Wave, great local bar and they can make a good drink when not slammed by dmitris customers.
-Filos and Dark horse are also decent places to get a cocktail if you get the right person. Experimentation is required to find out who that is.
-O'neils they generally have at least one thing on tap that is new and interesting.
-Bridget Foys only if it's raining and we don't want to walk. They aren't real cocktail slingers here. Well a couple people do ok on good nights.

Most of the places on south street aren't worth the time really, the beer is not great and I wouldn't waste time on a cocktail there. The puma set when they get fancy just want bottle service, for designer vodka no less. You'll have better luck in old city generally.

QV and northern liberties are two of my favorite neighborhoods. QV is within walking distance of most of center city. northern liberties you are more likely to just call it a neighborhood night, that's not to say it's worse, but be sure you like the neighborhood.

I think my favorite neighborhood is probably No. Libs. If money was no object, I'd live there. I just couldn't afford it. There's a variety of different places--nice restaurants open...2nd and Poplar is a good area, close to everything, lots of development there.

But yeah, it's all in what you're into.

I'm pretty sure New wave is having their Xmas party tonight. Would be a good time to check out the hood and gawk at the locals.

I may be there unless I go see bus 174 at ritz east.

yep, the xmas party is tonight. skroah, the royal tavern isn't a bad place to hit either if you like divey bars with good bar food and a solid jukebox.
