"In my opinion, it is the safest place in Chester," Cini said. "Potentially every movement, at least on the gambling floor, is being monitored."
Officials in Chester and Bensalem say they have seen no uptick in crime in their communities that can be attributed to Harrah's Chester and Philadelphia Park, whose slots parlors opened in January 2007 and December 2006, respectively." Chester may be rough.. But Bensalem isn't. http://www.philly.com/philly/hp/news...ted=n#comments Bensalem is as sprawl suburban as you get. So what will the anti-casino zealots say now?

lol, it would take a lot more than a casino to make crime go up in chester. They've pretty much reached the ceiling. Last week they had 5 homicides in 5 days and several more attempts. Considering that they have a population of around 30,000, their crime rate is well beyond Philadelphia levels, well beyond Camden levels, well beyond everyone.
As for casino's, this is no surprise. Casino's don't hurt anything but the sensibilities of some moronic prudes and the pocketbook of some idiots Last edited by victory : 08-18-2008 at 01:14 PM. |

Sycamore72: While I understand your hubby's concern, I don't think he really needs to worry about you visiting Harrah's Chester.
The casino is as far away as you can get from the rest of the city while remaining in the city limits -- it's located at the extreme southeast corner of the city, right next to the small creek that separates it from Eddystone. It occupies the site of the former Sun Shipbuilding shipyard, between the Delaware and the Industrial Highway, separated from the rest of Chester by the State Correctional Institution-Chester, about three blocks of vacant land and the Northeast Corridor railroad tracks. (Not to mention that said closest residential area is roughly half vacant land now.) Even a Chesterite would have to want to go there.

The casinos themselves are pretty safe inside.
Theres tons of cash in the machines, so there are lots and lots of armed security guards. Anybody been to Vegas? The police there gotta do a lot of work, but it's safe. And they got plenty of ghetto peeps there, too... just like we got.*** Vegas seems to be safe enough that I have to spend a week there next month on business attending a convention. *** OK, Vegas wasn't so safe for Tupac, but I think that was a "hit", anyway.
