Default You better look yourself straight in the mirror

I think you missed the point of my posts. I frankly don't care about the plight of the homeless. You won't find me in any advocacy groups or emptying the contents of my pockets to search for loose change. The point is, when dealing with the homeless you're taking a confrontation that can easily be avoided and potentially escalating it by choosing the wrong actions or words.
You are in for one big surprise!!!!
I am sure most people here have their own rationalization for wanting to stay here but in order to get a good picture of reality you must hear from people who use to live in Philly and now live in Boston, NY, Chicago and San Francisco. Crime is an issue there but not nearly so much as here. They have so many outdoor cafes and the optimism is soo much better then here.
I am not sure what motivates someone to move here but I think the violence and potential for violence is worse then I have ever seen it. I think its the most depressive place in the US for a big city . The history is cool in some places in CC and atmosphere could be as trendy if not more so in certain areas but you always have to be alert. More and more homeless abound and in fact many now sleep under bridges. I see many people here who don't een speak our language with earings and roam around in gangs in cars and pickups looking to antagonize or sell . I have personal experience of two shootings. Of course the real stats are 1000 shootings in Philly each year for the last few years and growing although the murder rate is declining just this year. More and more people don't have jobs, living with more then 4 buddies just to be able to afford rent. -This is not so bad but many don't have jobs and it makes the possibility of dysfunction and crime with people who are transient a very decent probability and real in many places. Of course if you can ignore no good quality air too then you better understand what kind of self destructive mode your in. You would be best suited to ask ex Philadelphians the question you asked.
The reason the bad things are allowed to happen is because in my mind the politicians don't care. They love the status Quo.

He was talking about a homeless hassling him. WTF are you on about? You want me to run my posts by you first to make sure they meet with your approval?

Yeah dude, that is indeed what you just posted. The problem is i'm not sure what part of it is supposed to blow my mind.

Philly has a crime problem? Sure does.

It's worse than some other cities? Sure is.

It's worse than all other cities? Not at all.

Non-english speakers with piercings roam the streets? Uh...i guess?

Homeless people sleep under bridges? Indeed, it keeps the rain off.

Yep , is that why you want one sided response?

It's worse than some other cities? Sure is.
Yes it is , now why would this be a plus to you?

It's worse than all other cities? Not at all.

Well does it have to be in order for you to see that as a negative?

Homeless people sleep under bridges? Indeed, it keeps the rain off.
Well obviously you would love it here.

It's not as bad as you're making it out to be. Believe it or not, Philadelphia is perfectly survivable for the vast majority of its inhabitants. Crime is a problem, but you don't have to be crazy to live here.

Um I think someone asked for opinion. You don't have to be as crazy as some, but you have to be able to ignore whats going on around you too often. Now why do that in a better city? Is there a science in looking around , not seeing what others might see and ignoring it when you do? Its called Philly police patrol. Call me crazy for wanting good quality air more often, less drug trade, more jobs, more kind and considerate people. less need for homelessness. Call me nuts for wanting politicians to improve this city

There was a buddy of ours that moved to Philadelphia to start his career last year, his name was Beau Zabel, he ended up murdered in Philadelphia about 2 months ago over a freaking IPOD, I can't even describe how much that angered me, the guy who did this is obviously an animal and I can't get over it. Last week, I was in Philadelphia, right there at 30th Street Amtrak, crossing the street to catch the Market-Frankford train and some guy goes "Hey, man, let me ask you a question", obviously I did not respond, shook my head and kept walking, all I hear after is "F** you, motherf**, bitch a**", I did not say anything but I just wanted to kick his dumb ass, of course, I would not stoop to his level but who knows, people like that might carry guns and stuff, but I was so angry! I love the city and I don't know how people learn to cope with this type of ignorance on a daily basis, but I can understand why racial relations in this city are not the greatest, any thoughts?

The killing of your friend was a tragic incident, but it should not stop you from deciding to live here. Truth be told, your friend could have just as easily been killed in any other big city. I don't know you, but I would assume that you don't hang with questionable people and you mind your own business. Chances are you won't be moving to the "badlands"(N. Philly) or "the bottom"(W. Philly) so I think your overall chances of getting killed or mugged are pretty low. I consider the U. City area to be safe, and I know people get robbed there and they have like three police forces if you include the university police.

On the homeless tip, if you can't handle how to tell somebody no or just disregard them all together than maybe Philly isn't the place for you. But I'm sure if you lived here for a few months you'll get into the hang of ignoring the homeless just like everybody else.

If you want to see some real ignorance, just look at some of the posts on this message board.
