Same here, but I try to guess which thong she'll be wearing. I'm always right too.

I know she wants me, she just hasn'
t met me.

She's the only reason to watch the news.

The best thing channel 29 has done lately is to get rid of that awful Don Tollefson.

Most local news is not worth watching. Since there are better sources to get the information you need use the nonsense offered on local TV for entertainment only. Which is really all its good for...well maybe not even that. DH and I ran into this station while traveling in Toronto. Now these folks really do not take themselves seriously.

Default With no point of my own...

I must say... Local News is a whole art form unto its own.

Having grown up in Central NJ where NY & Philly stations could be had by altering the roof-top antenna... NYC had hands down personality... but we are talking 1970's here. If my memory serves me correctly... the 10PM News format started in NY... a gutsy predecessor of the "Bleed It Leads" format and Investigative reports.

In NY Bill Beutel and Roger Grinsby, WABC EyeWitness News, held the standard for old school dinner time broadcasting... Monotone, serious and dignified old codgers... even with the creepy "Anchor chatter" that came in to fashion in the late 70's an early 1980's. By the Mid 1980's "Live at Five" WNBC- shot through the ratings ranks... with the "Talk-show format" That usualy had every one talking at the water cooler the next day... IMHO, it was Sue Simmons that held that format together.

I Never understood how Philly became the "Test-market" for NYC which would then lead to National Anchor or news reporter for the main networks.

All i could think of was the schlep Geraldo Rivera and his Willowbrook School report... which took a really bad story and made himself a hero... He, hands down changed the face of reporting for good or bad.

I see Philly anchors and reporters as looking for their "Poor-handy cap kids story... so i can make it to a NYC or National & Cable outlet"... it's sad really to understand that everything is formulaic now. "Bleed Crime, Politics, Thieves... Weather and a cute dog (Animal) story" It's Not news... it IS a Vehicle to promote a Talking Head!

And i Agree with all who posted about BBC... if you want to know what is going on in the world... and sometimes your major U.S. City... BBC has the best coverage.

I Will say one last thing... CBS Sunday Morning Is about the only Magazine Weekend Wrap-up Show i watch anymore... and that my friends means I'm ready for the the retirement home.

Of course Charlie Rose wont count...

If a newscaster in Philly thinks hot weather in July is a news story and doesn't know the difference between "LIKE" and "IS", then they shouldn't be on the air.
Did you mean "is" or "as"?

The former is correct when describing the sun, for "a ball of fire in the sky" is exactly what it is when viewed from the perspective of the Earth. "As" instead of "like" in this instance is not necessary, as the verb in the following clause is not expressed.

Since then one by one, all of our local newscasts have gone down the toilet and try really hard to out-toliet one another. The only exception was the Delaware based newcast that used to come on Channel 12. I think its dissapeared from the schedule. (Too smart for the room, I guess.)

Delaware Tonight
airs Monday through Friday at 5:30 p.m. on WHYY TV 12.

Philadelphia is the #4 television market in the country. New York is #1. Chances are that a New York station won't find it that easy to lure talent to a local newscast from #2 Los Angeles or #3 Chicago. The difference in rank combined with the geographic proximity make Philadelphia something of an annex of New York for local TV newspeople. But not that much of one: note that most Philadelphia newscasters either go up to a network or stay here rather than go to a local newscast in NYC.

There is no other show like Sunday Morning on Sunday morning. Everyone else is either doing straight news or political talk. (Okay, NBC has Sunday Today. That's basically a light news/talk program.)
