For the record, I love women feet, cute ones though...not all, and they're some really ugly and disgusting feet out there wearing flipflops.

Now, I can understand the "confortable" part of it, but some women take it too far, at the office some wear flip flops all the time, which I find completely tacky or "kitsch", here you are in a professional office enviroment, with shoes that makes you look like you're at your home mopping the floor, washing the car or relaxing at the pool. Is like the dress code rules (or common sense and taste) doesn't applies for footwear, you see a person elegantly dressed, and there you go....flip flops on their feet.

What's worse is that the dress code is unofficially "bent" for women, the second you see a man wearing flip flops he will probably receive some kinda "warning".
ok ok i realize the topic was rainy, but it was said (and re-said) that people shouldn't wear them unless they're on/near the beach. This is what i was referring to.

It does look funny but the one that tops this is people going in public in PJ bottoms and their slipper - it actually drives my husband nuts, lol.

I thought that people only wore PJ bottoms and their slippers on College campuses

At my office, flip flops on women warrants a warning.

Women get away with far more in the interpretation of dress codes. Men have to wear collars, women can wear anything "nice" so long as it isn't a baby tee that says "juicy peaches".

And they totally abuse it too.

I guess i'm old school. I long for the days when people actually cared what they looked like when they left the house, and I'm only 31. I sometimes wonder if how bad we look is a reflection of how bad this city looks. Really. If you don't think anything of wearing sweat pants that read "that's hot" on the behind to drop your kid off at school, then do you really care if you drop your Dunkin Donuts cup in the sewer?

My biggest pet peeve? People who show up at the airport in their pajamas to take an international flight. Worse than fanny packs and white sneakers.

Sometimes, it's a really long journey. I have traveled for 36 hours by the time I leave my place till the time I reach my final destination, and it's comfortable when you're in your PJs. That being said, I never wear flip flops or pjs while traveling, even if it's a 36-hour journey, and the reason is clear - the mile-high club!!

It was also difficult to me to understand why so many gals wear sweatpants everywhere, when I came to this country several years ago. Back in Europe, it's pretty easy to identify us by our sweatpants!!!

Default in defense of rainy day flip-flops!

As to the original post--flip-flops actually make sense to me on a rainy day!

I have a 25 minute walk to work. When it is raining hard, like it was last week, i always arrive at work with wet shoes that have usually soaked through to the socks. Sneakers let the water right in, and I don't like to wear good leather shoes in the rain. I know I should have a nice pair of rainboots, but I've never found a comfortable pair, have bad feet, and tend to get blisters even after a 15 minute walk.

To me, wet socks and shoes rank really high on the "annoying" scale (only slightly below wet jeans) Generally, I bring an extra pair of sock and then change both shoes and socks upon arrival. So, thanks to the OP, on the next rainy day, I think I will don the ol' flip-flops! Thanks for the great idea!

My wife and I were like, WTF?....whats wrong with this people?, we're used to it now, we still think they're nuts when we see people dressed for summer in the middle of march, but I guess is some cultural thing I won't get coming from southamerica.
Hey, is that any worse than going to South America and seeing people wear winter hats and other assorted cold weather gear on 90 degree days because they saw some dude wearing one in a movie?

lol...I don't know...maybe is just me but my common sense thinks this way:

sun + hot weather = uncover you and your feet as much as possible (within reason)

rain + cold weather = cover you and your feet as much as possible (within reason)
