if you agree to the prescription that excons need a second chance then not only will they be in half way houses they will be working next to someone you know or knew. That happened to me and I almost got into a violent situation at a rehab program, but our Mayor thinks its a good idea. I think work release is good as long as they are not violent. I am not sure how Hillary or Obama or our Mayor feels about rehabbing violent criminals but I think its a bad idea. Yet what are we going to do with them, as there are thousands in this area.

A portion of it (in particular, my understanding of the retributivist theory of criminal justice) was based on my recollection of miscellaneous discussions from my criminal law class, lo those years ago. The rest was, so far as I'm aware, just my semi-coherent rambling on a topic of interest.

Why would our goverment worry about rehabbing/keeping in confinement violent criminals when it can just as easily arrest a recreational pot smoker who will usually pay their fines and debt to society. Where is the DEA going to get the money for their nice shiny Expeditions and Escalades if they are just busting gang bangers?

Actually, I think that if you look back through my posts (especially the substantive ones), you'll find that I am probably one of the more scrupulous posters when it comes to giving attribution. I think this holds particularly true for posts that rely on data and statistical analysis. See, for example, here and here and here for analyses regarding the supposed manipulation of oil and gas prices. I think that in each one you'll note that I give sources for the data on which I rely.

For other recent examples, please see here, here, here, here, and here. Ordinarily, I wouldn't devote such energy to rebutting a silly accusation; but if you are going to have the temerity to impugn someone's integrity, you'd better have the evidence to support your accusation.

I think that it's really unfortunate that you continue to single out Muslims. There are just as many criminals who proclaim that they have found Jesus Christ in jail only to return to their criminal ways upon release. This has nothing to do with their faith. If they had killed a bunch of people in the name of Allah, you might have a point. But they didn't. They knocked off a bank and killed a police officer who got in their way. They're viscious felons and their faith is immaterial.
