Acts of domestic violence can occur anywhere, and thus those around are really in harm's way. This morning, around 4am, the rental over a block away (the one that only seems to allow white women and black men) has this lovely exchange:

-Him: Bitch, I'm a gonna get my gun and shoot all yous!
-Her: (crying) Baby, no! Calm down!
-Him: Bitch, I'm a fu*k you up!
-He slams her forcefully three times into the barn leader's car (the moo cow who rents, not the lovely visiting couple), each time knocking her over and denting the car.
-Police arrive
-The couple and friends try to get into a car
-The police tell him to get out
-He doesn't comply; they force him out
-Him: I ain't do sh*t; Y'all don't need to be touchin' me an doin' all dat.
-Her: Baby, I have no bail money! Please, no! Oh, God, I'm a schoolteacher and have to get up in a couple of hours! Please leave him alone!
-Him: Shut up.
Police separate him from her.
Him: (crying) I ain't touch her. I never coming around here again, I promise!

No charges filed.

It could have easily escalated into the dummy shooting her and the other idiots, and anyone else around. There is little regard for life, except for one's own. I would have felt oh so bad taking out such a shooter with a rifle.

Something bad happens.
It makes no difference if some city is worse or some city is better.
If the people killed were black or white
If they were evil or good
If it happened near you or across the city.

Marginalizing a death by throwing something else into the mix makes no sense and shows a lack of humanity, and that it is not just the victim who has had something taken away from them.

I find people who can say 'oh well at least we are not Detroit' or 'it happened somewhere else, so it can happen here' to be the problem. That they can just brush it off and not demand action makes them partially responsible for the deaths.

In my belief, attitudes like HG are just as responsible for homicides as the gun toting, 'don't snitch' attitude.

I think it really depends on which point of view you are looking at it from at any given moment.

To be concerned about the murder rate because you are concerned about being murdered is one thought. It makes perfect sense to consider some of the risk factors and manage the risk; and discussing those factors is perfectly legitimate and not at all "responsible for homicides."

To be concerned that a segment of society kills each other almost irrationally is another thought (take people involved in the "drug culture" as an example).

One person can be concerned about both, but talk about one or the other at any one time.

Other than legalizing currently illegal drugs, I don't see any solutions to the issue of drug gang members fighting over turf or some other "beef" and killing each other. Similar behavior has been going on since long before you were born and occurs pretty much world wide. If you've got the magic solution, what is it?

I'm not brushing it, Ten-zo.

Are you guilty? Are you the Holmesburg Al Cowlings?

It was on Aldine, between Erdrick and Walker.
