I tend to agree. I never had a fear of being murdered and don't fear that outcome now. I have few if any risk factors for being murdered.

What is of some concern is manslaughter. Robber turns killer. Gangbangers on a whim. My sense is that robberies are down since the Nutter/Ramsey duo took over and also that the police are more visible.

My understanding is the stats don't differentiate (so we really should be discussing homicides) but looking at the huge majority of killings, what seems to be going on has little relationship to civilization. If you don't buy or sell drugs, your odds of being killed are pretty low. Don't date nutjobs, lower still. Don't hang around in a hood where the wrong comment will get you dead, or with people who will kill you over a petty dispute, drops again. Roll all that together and you are not likely to be killed in philly. It still happens for sure, but it has absolutely no correlation to the well publicized "murder rate."

The city as a whole also seems more upbeat about things in general. I wouldn't get down on Nutter because there is still a relatively large population that can't seem to avoid killing each other.

I'm starting to really despise this city. For all hoopla about Nutter, there hasn't been any real discernible change over the past two months. The murder rate has barely changed. I'm sick of tired of waking up every morning and reading nothing but crime articles.

He did hold a bunch of town hall meetings and declared a state of emergency. Of course that accomplished nothing.

If you build a cage or a wall or whatever, who is inside and who is outside? You are really putting yourself in a cage.

Not for me, thanks.

C'mon, brah. Give Nutter a chance. This city was in the crapper when he took over. It takes a while to crawl out of hell.

I read them, but I really can't care about the murder rate much anymore.

I did what I could do on Election Day. I just have to sit back and wait, now.

Of course, if we elect John McCain while the economy goes south and I'm out of work, then you might see me applying to be a PPO.

The physical activity requirements are pretty lame. A Philly couch potato can do 1.5 mi in 14 minutes, although perhaps not bench 0.85 of his weight. I think the commissioner should change that to 1.5 miles in 11 1/2 minutes for men of all ages and the bench press should be 105% of body weight, total body fat should be 24% or less, and on top of that, pass a cholesterol screen.

All that and lifting the residency requirement should get you some more fit beat cops on the sidewalks.

The real point was that dead is dead. I don't think we set any records.

Now, reread some of the posts in this thread. It doesn't look like they were all "psychopaths" especially if you go by the true definition of a psychopath. Two of the past 24 hours' deaths were the result, apparently of domestic disturbances. Quite different from your run-of-the-mill gangbangers with no real remorse or affect for what they are doing, presumably.
