Also, what does the weather have to do with anything? It was the same thing last winter, and the rate didn't really drastically increase once it got warm. It hasn't been very cold much this winter anyway.

HG: If you want a more up-to-date murder counter, there's one on the PPD's home page. Some of the ones last night were after midnight, but unless there's 12 today, we're still below last year's pace.

I see the discrepancy, two were after midnight. Thank you.

You can say that Nutter can't quickly change the homicide rate and the problems extend far beyond any one man, but the ENTIRE POINT OF HIS CANDIDACY centered on getting the murder rate down.

I know about a dozen people who have this city on a short leash and if there isn't a discernible change in the murder rate by spring, they are picking up and leaving.
And it's all supposed to happen overnight like flipping a light switch? I thought we elected Mayor Nutter to a 4 year term. Why not read what you yourself wrote before you stopped making sense: "Those numbers are for January. That's too early to tell any difference."

Exactly. If you know anything about statistics, you know the futility of trying to extrapolate those numbers to a full year.

Instances of a solo shooter killing many during one act constitutes fundamentally different problems than a city at war.

There is still the problem of a lot of dead people. Usually from someone thinking that they can solve their problems by shooting them.

if you read the actual story:

there were six dead, one was an older homeless man without any apparent signs of foul play. so that's five.

of the five, two appear to be domestic disputes. horrifying, but not random (although I think if the PD gets better at actually arresting people, they'll cut down on these awful domestic murders...usually it's not just their girlfriends these monsters are violent with...)

that leaves 3...one clearly a drug hit, the other two...inconclusive. But you can look at the hour, the location, and the youth of the victims and draw your own conclusions about whether they were random, until we get more information.

It's not a happy story, but it doesn't make me feel less safe in the city. I think we should give the new PD time to work on these things.

Oh please. Take a deep breath and chill. Unless you are living in the communities where the murders won't quit ( and maybe you are) then I can see moving. That makes sense. If not stop the dramatics. Most of the city is safe and most people go about their day and evenings with out incident. I know I do. By your logic every time there is a killing we have the put the area on probation. So that means I cannot attend my classes at school for fear of some nut shooting the class up. Or I have to avoid trains and planes because some terrorist will blow them up. Guess I better stay away from high rises also. Better stay out of Lane Bryant because some one will shoot up the store. Better still I'll shop on line because malls get shot up too. Guess I better not go home because some one can kill me there. You want to live in fear have at it.

Tomorrow is not promised to any of us and outside of taking reasonable precautions for my safety I am going about my life which is a good one. I cannot worry about a bunch half wits who live and increasingly die by the gun.

Is the thread starter serious? You can't just chop the murders rates in half after two months in office. Get a grip dude.

Obviously none are good but in my opinion, having six murderers is harder to stop than one murderer.

Most of Philly is safe bullshi..
I know personally three people shot
You based rational responses to facts
Most asthma,
Most murders per population or close (ratios)
Philly has more murders then many nations in the world
I guess if your not scared then obviously your a saint
For all the people and police murdered and robbery victims God bless you but some people don't care you were shot dead.
Why can't we get the freakin school system to eliminate the gun detectors ? I mean it has to be safe in there cause the guy says so
