It was balanced...90% of the city is in a steep decline and 10% is on the upswing. That's about the same negative/positive ratio as the news piece.

There is more to Philadelphia than Center City....and it ain't good. I think the nation should know what the city is ACTUALLY like from objective journalism, not what the GPTMC wants you to believe.

And as for NYers believing that Philly is one huge ghetto....t is one huge ghetto! Look at street view on Google maps. Go beyond Center City. How much of that is inhabitable?Even the supposedly "gentrifying" parts look horrible. Look at GHo. It looks like Hiroshima (except with more trash on the streets). And when I lived here, people were touting it as a desirable place to live. Imagine what it looks like to a NYer.

IMO, it's more like a third good, a third bad, and a third empty.

NYC's a nice place, if you have the money for it. I think for anyone making better than about 250-300k/yr, it's the way to go. Otherwise you'll get more bang for your buck here.

250-300k? I guess the 40% of the city that consists of foreign born immigrants live in the Hudson.

It's the most inclusive city in the US (and one of the most inclusive in the world).

Well lets see: Others feel free to add along

Chestnut Hill
West Mount Airy
East Falls
Roxborough
Andorra
Manayunk
Wynnefield Heights
Overbrook Farms
Cedar park
Spruce Hill
University City
Packer Park
Far Northeast
Much of West Oak Lane

If you broke it down probably 1/3 of the city is top notch, 1/3 is stable,1/3 is in decline bombed out.

90% ghetto? No!

Come on food face...
lets be at least a little objective here. The NE makes up a good 1/3 of the city and I challenge you to find bombed out shells there. NW makes up a good 1/4 same applies. Now lets see if we remember how to add non common denominators...thats 7/12 or 58% right there. In all reality a maybe 1/3 of the city is true ghetto. And thats pushing the limit cause that leaves only 8% to account for CC and SP.

Not saying thats a nice number but easily avoided on a daily basis and even over the course of a lifetime

Ignore Foodie; he couldn't get laid while he was here, and now takes every opportunity to bash the city in return.

This is nothing compared to the CNN week-long expose on crime, mostly concentrated in North Philadelphia.

Relax, people. There's no way we can cover up all the murders and shootings everywhere, and a good chunk of this town DOES look like Beirut.

Did you know that most New Yorkers come to this city on Amtrak... and they get a grand tour of North Philadelphia on the way in? That scary bit between Oxford Circle and West River Drive probably does cloud a lot of people's views and perceptions about Philly.

The only way to make reports like that stop--is to start fixing the city's problems. There's a lot of word-of-mouth positive stuff about Philadelphia as it is. Quite a number of people get dragged here against their will (they marry/shack up with a Philadelphian) and find out this place is actually rather cool.

And this is why you should donate to PACCA, not PETA:

In September, PETA made headlines in Vermont and across the nation for asking
Ben & Jerry's ice cream to use human breast milk in their ice cream, instead of cow milk

No they're not! *Some* of you act as though NYC has no freaking crime whatsoever.
