Post Winter Vacation in Philly!

Hello everyone! My girlfriend and I have come up with the wonderful idea of a winter vacation in Philly. We will be there from Feb. 20-23. We live in eastern NC; and while she is a lifelong southerner, I am a native of Wilmington, Del (However, I haven't lived there in 30 years). She wants to experience the other side of winter - urban style.
What we are asking of PhillyBloggers is what we can do indoors for entertainment and enrichment on the dates listed above. We know about museums and other tourists sites, but mostly we want to know about specific happenings (especially in the evenings) such as plays, shows, events, comedy, music, etc. We don't require anything professional as we greatly enjoy college theater as much as anything, and we'll consider anything within 30 miles of Philly.
We've got tickets to the Wilco concert, Sat. Feb. 23, at the Tower in UD, so events for the previous days/nights will be especially helpful.
Thank you in advance from both of us and we're looking forward to visiting Philly this winter.

during the winter I hit up the indoor shooting ranges a lot. Seriously, when I'm not punching little 9mm holes in paper targets, My wife and I like to eat, go to the ballet, and catch a lot of movies.

Eat: I recommend checking out the Stephen Starr Restaurants. They all are great places to eat. My favorite is POD. But my wife loves Alma De Cuba and Morimoto. Don't forget to also check out Fogo de Chão, I LOVE that place.

Ballet: One of my friends is a performer with the Pennsylvania Ballet (http://www.paballet.org/index.aspx). They don't have performances for the month of Feb. But there should be other Plays and events going on in the city. I recommend you check out the Ave of the Arts website, for a more total listing of events on S. Broad, in Center City.

movies: Everyone likes the movies. But The Bridge is a nice clean movie theater to go to.

I hope you enjoy your visit to Philly.

jahfakin, thanks, seriously, on the avenue of the arts tip - should prove to be most useful.

If there are anymore tips on restaurants from anyone we'd greatly appreciate it. She'll eat anything; me, I'm more meat & potatoes, and, of course, pizza (cheesesteak for this trip is a gimmie: Reading Market). Restaurants with variety are always helpful for us.

Thank you.

I think you two might like to spend an hour or two for drinks at Chris's Jazz Cafe at 15th and Sansom hidden by the Union Building.

It's reasonably priced, a local haunt, and it's part of the old jazz establishment.

One place you two need to have dinner at: Morimoto on 7th and Chestnut Street. It's Japanese... and the interior will definitely blow your mind and wow your girlfriend. If you guys aren't that into sushi but don't mind simple veggie rolls (like California rolls), order those and try some of their martinis.

And this is why you should donate to PACCA, not PETA:

In September, PETA made headlines in Vermont and across the nation for asking
Ben & Jerry's ice cream to use human breast milk in their ice cream, instead of cow milk

Just a few suggestions I can think of:

I can see Old City being a fun time to people visiting the city for the first time. It's heart is 2nd and Chestnut but there are places on Market st up to 4th st and down to front st. It won't be as crazy as fri/sat night but should have some people around. Plough and the Stars usually has good food..Positano Coast has a nice ambiance too..it's at 2nd and walnut. If you want movies, I recommend any of the Ritz Theaters as they play independent films...one is right across from positano coast.
There is much shopping to be had along walnut street during the daytime...from broad st (1400 block) up to 18th and walnut and right at 18th is Rittenhouse Park.

If you're into checking out live music, there's also: world cafe live http://www.gophila.com/Phila/EventsCalendar/

There is Helium Comedy Club too.

A different kind of 'museum' is the Eastern State Pennitentuary...they have tours. Here's the website: http://www.easternstate.org/
There's plenty of restaurants around there too. I'd recommend London Grill or Zorba's or Rembrandt's. This is in the fairmount section of philly...and it's quite close to the Art Museum.
Have a nice trip.
