330-350. Mild decrease from 2007.

See, half the time Philadelphians must be doubling on the murder rate in their mind due to saturation media coverage! Its really not that bad.

ok, it is.
We are talking about the same murder, but you stated that it happened on the 2nd. Philly residents do things quicker. You didn't think we would have to wait over 24 hours for our first killing of the new year, did you?

As for doubling on the murder rate in their minds, you are the one who first posted about any new murder for the new year.

Assuming you actually believe the numbers. Didn't John Timony publicly complain that Philly was distorting the numbers? Timony was pushing for accurate reporting so the police could dispatch the majority of the police in areas with the most crime.

Philly is also claiming that violence in schools is down and education is up. Who believes that? The week after a teacher had is neck broken the city claimed school violence was down.

You can mess with all of the numbers except murder. How do you hide a body?

Instead of a burglary, a house that was broken into could be listed as a criminal mishchief.

Instead of a theft from an auto, it could be listed as a vandalism.

Instead of an assault, it could be a mutual fight. (Hospital case and a disturbance- no report to follow).

But what do you do with the bullet riddled body. Or the body with multiple stab wounds. Or the body wrapped up in a carpet?

It is hard to sweep them under the rug. Our homicide numbers are pretty much dead on. (No pun intended.)
