The murder rate for Philadelphia actually dropped in 2007.

In 2007, we had a total of 392 murders.
In 2006, we had a total of 406 murders.

It isn't much, but it is a start.

Larry, if you're going to start a thread about the murder rate being down, you might want to tell us what the murder rate was in 2007 and 2006. This would help illustrate your point.

The trend is in the right direction, but would love for it to accelerate. this rate is too slow... similar to the awesomely slow rate of BPT tax reduction.

At this rate, it will take a long time before it is controlled and not considered out of line with national averages.

A difference of 14 from one year to the next, about a 3.5% reduction is not a trend, it's a statistical anomaly.

a third or a fourth datapoint would make it a trend. If '04 and '05 numbers were also meeting the downward slope, however flat, it would be encouraging (a little, but also frustrating because it would confirm the slow pace). But you're right, this is nothing to write home about.
