Default Two children taken in carjacking in West Philly

Don't know whether this belongs in West Philly section, but I figured more people would see it here. An amber alert went out over the TV. Details from CBS 3 website:

Quote:
Amber Alert Issued For 2 Abducted Children

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Authorities have issued an Amber Alert for two children who were abducted from an SUV in West Philadelphia Wednesday evening.

A six-year-old boy named George and his three-year-old sister Kaliopi were in the backseat of a SUV in the 3200 block of Baring Street when the driver, the children's mother, left the vehicle and went into a relative's residence. Police said that is when an unknown suspect stepped into the car and took off.

According to authorities, the SUV was possibly headed in the direction of the Schuylkill Expressway.

Both New Jersey and Pennsylvania authorities were notified of the missing children and a search is under way.

The car is described as a silver SUV BMW X5 with Pennsylvania tags GDF 1692.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

I was disappointed with the Emergency Broadcast System on the Comcast system. An announcement came on shortly after 9PM and the volume was so low and the voice so garbled that it was a struggle to understand anything.

Meanwhile, I sure hope those kids will be ok.

I knew it would just be a matter of time before this sort of thing started happening again (kids in the car when it gets jacked).

You'd think the carjackers would have figured out by now that when they take kids, suddenly the hunt for the car gets a lot more serious. Obviously they haven't.

Glad everybody turned out OK.

Might've been some joy-riding kids. They tend to dump the car a couple neighborhoods away from where they got it, once they're done.

They're my former neighbors. Mom is a little overwhelmed and now has three, 6 and under. I always hated that she would leave the kid or kids in the car when she was unloading groceries, but in my old 'hood, in the NE, it wasn't the worst sin in the world, and if I saw this, I would wait with the car, or take a kid in or help in some way so that children were not unattended in the car.

You can't leave your kids in the car, and leave them alone. Screw the car, use the cell if you're waiting for someone to come out and meet you, anything, just don't leave your kids in the car, and really...don't do this in W. Philly.

It's a nice, Beemer SUV; it's night--the thief probably didn't see the kiddies in the back seat. 61st & Passyunk is a good bit away from 3300 Baring.

Is that what that was? I didn't hear anything, quickly saw a screenful of writing that I thought said something about donating a car to charity, and then my cable went out completely.

Definitely not working.

And with the car running?? My gosh, if my kids are in the car and I stop to get something out of the trunk, I turn the car off, lock it and pocket the keys.

I'm thrilled the kids were found, unharmed, so quickly and really hope they have no long term trauma from this. But I also really hope someone tells the mom NOT to leave her car running with the kids in it! (Should someone even have to tell the mom that???)
