Yeah, the only reason I knew what they were saying was because I saw an NBC crawl before it.

If a massive detail oriented emergency was happening you wouldn't have a clue what was going on.

I don't even HAVE kids and the first thing I thought was "who the hell leaves their kids in the car with the car running??!" Never mind the carjacking, one of the kids could release the break, put the car in gear, anything like that.

I'm betting the guy didn't realize the kids were in the car, freaked out when he figured it out, and dumped them & the car.

FWIW, we heard the EBS alert. It would be helpful if they had the message in print as well as broadcasting it, however. We were watching a hockey game so there was no scroller, but had the volume up loud enough to (barely) hear.

I doubt the mother will be leaving the kids in the car again. Thank God, nothing worse had to happen to communicate this lesson.

Two rules of city living:
1. Never leave your car unlocked (let alone unlocked and running)
2. Never leave anything of value in your car (particularly children, for god's sake)

Hell, I don't even allow MYSELF to be left in the car with it running. The car is turned off, the doors locked and the keys taken out of the ignition. Seriously, why risk it?

Me either. I thought I was just being paranoid.

And the first "thing" I take out of my car once I've parked is my kid--no matter where I am. I know people who once left their toddler napping in his car seat after they parked their car in their driveway in their very safe suburban neighborhood. He woke up and almost choked himself on the strap of his seat while trying to squirm out--his father found him gasping for air.

I'm happy to hear the kids are safe--how scary this must have been for both them and their parents.

Nope. Aside from too hot/too cold/too whatever, Too many sickos out there. Human kid can be too valuable to some of them.

Even pets aren't safe (although a big enough dog can usually take care of himself).
