Default Center City law partner found beaten on street

http://www.philly.com/philly/hp/news...on_street.html

A partner in the Dilworth Paxson law firm was recovering from neurosurgery this afternoon after he was found beaten last night at 63rd Street and Passyunk Avenue, police said.
Gino J. Benedetti, 45, was attacked sometime between the time he left the law firm at 18th and Market Street at 6:30 p.m. and when he was found at about 7:50 p.m. with head trauma beside his Acura in Southwest Philadelphia, said Sgt. Charles Layton of the Southwest Detectives Special Investigation Unit.
Benedetti, the chief of the firm's labor and employment law group, was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he underwent surgery and was recovering.
"He was really severely beaten," said Joseph H. Jacovini, chairman of the Dilworth firm, who visited Benedetti this morning. "When I saw him, he had recovered consciousness and his doctors were optimistic as to his recovery."
Jacovini said he was told that Benedetti normally parks his car at a lot around 22nd and Market Streets, but it was unclear if the assault had taken place in Center City.
Police said that Benedetti was conscious when he was found by a passerby in Southwest Philadelphia, but that investigators were unable to conduct an extensive interview with him.
"You hear all the time about random violence - shootings, muggings, killings," said Jacovini. "This brings it home. Something has to be done."
Benedetti had been with Dilworth Paxon for about a year. He was formerly a partner in Miller, Alfano & Raspanti. He is a board member of the Police Athletic League.
He is a resident of Media and is known as an avid bicyclist - Jacovini said Benedetti sometimes cycled to work from Media.

Sorry, but it doesn't sound like random violence. A little too close to "The Purple Orchid" if you ask me.
Taking home one of the dayshift dancers has its drawbacks. Especially if her boyfriend is a Pagan and all they really want is your money.

Where did this part come from?...

It doesn't (currently) appear in the online version.

If it happened in Center City he sure passed quite a few hospitals and was definitely taking the long way home to Media

I don't think we're ever going to get the full story on this one, not that we need it.
If my guess is right, he'll consider it a lesson learned the hard way and claim to have a loss of memory about the details of the entire affair.

Follow the link again, the story's been updated. It now says second robbery and beating with a brick in two nights on Passyunk. Anyone know what's "between a car wash and a video store" at 63rd & Passyunk?

There's nothing in between them. The vidoe store is some kind of porn place with live girls advertised.

The car wash is right next door.

Wait--does anyone think this was really a random mugging? Was anything actually taken from this guy?

I haven't heard of that many muggings that happen with a brick!
