I am considering moving to the University City area of West Philadelphia and taking a job in the Northeast-- near Wyoming and Castor. Does anyone know if this is a doable commute during rush times Monday-Friday, and how long it would take?

Driving or public transit?

35 minutes, barring any unforeseen circumstances. Only really good connections on public transit would be better...or off-hours commuting.

The EL is a viable alternative (or a combination of the subway/surface + EL). Looks like your work isn't far from the Frankford and/or Margaret/Orthodox stops. Timewise, it's about the same: 30-40 mins

Castor & Wyoming is right at the edge of Northwood, which is a neighborhood full of great twin and single houses that are probably much less expensive then U-City. I would think Northwood is safer than U-City as well. However, Northwood is not hip-or-trendy and not considered up-and-coming like U-City. Might want to check it out though. |
