To some of the merchants and residents of the tony shopping zone, quacking detracts from the air of exclusivity they prefer. In the words of Fred Campbell, a sales associate at Marcoz Antiques, the ban keeps the street "sedate and upscale -- as it should be."

You are kidding right? I have been on the Ducks. Where, oh where along the route in Philly would be considered tony? Please.

::shrug:: I rode the ducks with my 2 kids over a year ago. They still have their quackers and still quack at me when I give them baths at night. And when I pretend to jump and be scared of the noise, they laugh the most amazing deep belly laughs and can barely catch their breath. As annoying as the ducks can be, I'll put up with them a dozen times over to hear my kids laugh like that.

So many things wrong with this city....and this is your pet peeve? Must be nice in your world where this is what you have time to focus on. Its one thing to complain about something or dislike it....but to go so far as to try to start a campaign against it??? Come on.

Why is it that the only ones who complain about the ducks seem to be from Society Hill? I live right off Front street on the border of SH and QV. The ducks drive by me every day. They are always full of happy smiling tourists - adults and kids. They don't play loud offensive music with chest pounding bass as they roll through stops signs. They don't have straight pipes and accelerate to 80 mph coming off South st shaking every house within two blocks. They wave, they smile, they dance, they quack. My son loves when they drive by and asks where they are EVERY SINGLE DAY. They quack at me, I smile, and 5 seconds later they are out of sight.

You know what annoys me??? City officials involved in corruption who are too busy to worry about citizens being killed at a record pace. City officials who stand by while cops are getting shot at regularly. Citizens who refuse to cooperate with police to get criminals off the streets.

Large amphibious vehicles filled with quacking tourists who still visit our city despite the problems above.....sorry that just doesn't make it on my radar.

The Duck People were out at Bikephilly. I scored two duck-bill noisemakers.

Well, I can see you've never been walking smartly to work, proud and confident, only to have a busload of smiling children and elderlies open up with a barrage of quacks at you.
I went down like I was shot, hyper-ventilating, a sobbing, snotty mess, just as I'm sure happens to "shuttheduckup".
I too hope to blog on the hurt, nay, shattered feelings I've experienced after being hurt by their quacks. Maybe he could be my "blog-father".

If you are trying to be sarcastic you should probably avoid the words - smartly, proud, and confident – when describing yourself.

Yes because people who live in Society Hill are "special" and deserve to be treated as such. How dare anyone make a sound in Society Hill. Go make noise around the poor people.

Translation: My house is worth over a half a million dollars. Therefore, I should not be subjected to normal city noises.

I think both you and Walt seriously need to get ducked. It will help you relax.
