Your fish avatar climbed out of my brown ocean avatar! I guess I'm thinking ocean because it looks like part of a shell. But I like that people came up with their own interpretations.

The first level is related to my .sig, which you will note contains the phrase "Exile on Market Street." I chose this handle way back when I was still at Penn but not yet in its public relations office. Usenet was da bomb back then, and I was as promiscuous a poster on newsgroups as I was here.

When I found out that I was going to get hired into the PR office, I chose this handle -- which is also a reference to one of the Rolling Stones' greatest albums -- because the office, which had been in Logan Hall until they found the roof above it seriously deteriorated, was located in the Science Center on Market Street. While a mere two blocks from the heart of campus, psychologically, it may as well have been in New Jersey, hence the handle.

But "Exile on Market Street" doesn't make a handy 10- to 15-character screen name (and was thus unusable for AIM), so I used "MarketStEl" as a sort of anagram based on it. Which brings us to the other level: It's also a reference to one of my abiding interests, namely, trolleys, trains and subways (okay, els in this case).

I created my avatar on a Japanese web site that lets you build illustrations of yourself from a palette of tools. It's not quite as accurate as it used to be -- I no longer sport a mustache -- but it's still a good likeness.

But enough about me.

I never commented on this before, but:

Your libertarian politics I can handle.

This is much more difficult to swallow. Recall where I was born and raised.

"Get Fuzzy" often invites that sort of thing. I have on my fridge door the daily strip in which Satchel, the lovable but slightly addlebrained mutt, explains how he got injured at the hands of Stank Lloyd Wrong, the feline "architect" Bucky hired to "expand his closet" (ineptly, of course).

"I implied that a building in Malaysia was taller than the Sears Tower in Chicago," he said.

"He hit you for that?"

"Oh, no, no...he BIT me for that. He bonked me on the head when I challenged Gropius' assertion that architecture is the sign of authentic democracy."

That strip is effin' brilliant, I tell ya.

--Sandy, 49 as of today
On my wall at work I have the strip where they are telling party jokes.

Satchel: How many Republicans does it take to change a light bulb? Nobody knows! They won't release that information.

Bucky: How many degenerate liberals does it take to change a lightbulb?
Satchel: Well, with the proper funding ...
Bucky: They never change anything. They just cry over the broken bulb.

Rob: Hey settle down in there.
Bucky: How many 3rd partiers does it take to change a bulb? We'll never know...

Soo good and soo funny.

And yes, the Raider fan thing tends to be more of a liability than not.

handle = Nick name since a kid- but I like the fact that it is defined as a nautical term...

avatar = the molecular chemical representation of Aspirin.

Tenzo is my dogs name.

I used to have him as my avatar but it freaked out my wife to have everyone asking is she was Tenzo when she walked the dog.

The avatar I have now is how I feel with a lot of the silly arguments people seem to be posting on the blog now

Trixie Cuervo is my secret identity, invented after a long night at the bar 20 years ago. It comes from combining my favorite cartoon character (Trixie from Speed Racer)and my favorite drink.
My best friends are Josie Sapphire and Smurfette Daniels.

My avatar represents my favorite activity – hanging out on the beach with the best friends and enjoying life!

I first joined PB right around the time that I was moving back into Philly after a few years of exile in the western (and far western) burbs. Had just purchased a home in the "Valley" section of Roxborough, a HUGE 1960's development of two story and raised ranch twins known today as the Valley Twins. Hence the name. The avatar is a drawing of one of the raised ranch Valley Twins from the original sales brochure for the development which another PBer was kind enough to share a while back.

Talking I love Get Fuzzy!

I viewed it as symbolic of a group of people getting fed up with angry politicos (Fuzzy's character) and while the politico couldn't comprehend that the "lowly masses" were actually going to retaliate (and further insulting them when he mentioned his disbelief), they did and "bonked" him on the head.

Yeah, sometimes I look too deep into things.
And Bucky reminds me of one of my cats. My fridge door is FULL of Bucky comics. My fave is SO me:

Rob: So how are you going to make your record? You have no album deal.... no band.... you can't even sing, dude.
Bucky: Hey, I don't need the MAN to approve my record. I can do that myself.
Bucky: I don't need the MAN to tell people to buy my record. My talent will do that. I don't need constant adoration & ego stroking to feel good about myself, I'm not a DOG. You say jump, I say how RUDE.
Rob: Gotcha. You question authority, eh?
Bucky: No, I annoy authority. More effect, less effort.
