No, they were reacting to news of the new "Culture Czar".

Busy night in the City.

Philadelphia - Standing on the steps of his childhood home in West Philadelphia, Mayoral Candidate Michael Nutter today announced his bold “Safety Now” plan for ending gun violence. “Our city government has failed the people by a lack of leadership and a lack action,” said Nutter. “As Mayor of this Great City, I will provide leadership by taking immediate action to stop the violence.”

Homicide Suspect Wounded in Shootout with Police in SW Phila.

Philadelphia police traded gunfire with a man on a Southwest Philadelphia street on Monday afternoon. No police were hurt, but the man was wounded in the arm. He's now in custody, being investigated in connection with an earlier murder.
Police say the shootout began about 2:30pm near Greenway Avenue and Simpson Street. They say they got a call about the possible sighting of a man wanted in a murder. Investigators say when police confronted the man, he shot at them. The cops returned fire, and the alleged gunman suffered an arm wound.

omigod, the mayor has NOT prevented all crime in the city. obviously, just another lying politician. if he was any good every knucklehead would have left the city.

hey, at least the police were there to arrest the guy. he started shooting because he knew he was done for anyway. johnson would have been having lunch with him.

In July of 2006, there were 49 murders.

In July of 2007, there were 42 murders.

With about a week to go in July of 2008, there have been 17 murders.

How about the 6500 missing persons in 2006? Do you know where they are?

I think you are clueless. The city is not getting safer.

I wonder what philly's record is for most murders in 24 hours.

During 2007, I see in March there were 4 in 11 hours and in April there was 10 in one weekend.

Except for a rare kidnapping and murder (like that politicians son) or an alzheimer victim (like the old gent found dead in the snow in Chestnut Hill) 'most' of those reported missing are found within hours.

6500 people a year are not going missing and never found in the City of Philadelphia.

True but you are missing the point. If just 1-2% of the missing people were murdered then the cities murder totals go out the window.
