Expect to see shootings of 'poor, troubled, youth, who were basically good kids' go up, as people who are more frightened start to carry more.

Default PPD interactive crime map

Has anyone used this yet? Do you find it helpful?

I did recently for info on a section in N. Philly. I found it convenient.

Any opinions on Ramsey's/PPD's new initiative?

I thought only drug dealers and people who owed drug dealers money tracked the murder rate.

What's the armed robbery rate?

I have been keeping notice of (but not actually recording) the homicide count and percentage on ppdonline almost daily. Has any website been keeping track (a graph or chart) of the day-to-day count? I don't see anything on ppd. I know malcolmxpark.org does a stats update sometimes, but it is based on monthly and not daily numbers. The percentage right now is about 19 compared to last year and it seems low compared to the 25-28% I was seeing a few weeks ago.

I figure since I only have to go in two days a week, I can justify the expense of parking. I honestly can't stand walking anywhere around there. It's not that I'm scared, it's just that it's so filthy and disgusting. And you see nothing but the scum of the earth, especially on Market or Chestnut. What a ****ing ghetto fest. You might see one decent person out of 10 or 20, at best. It's just not worth the misery.

My sincere condolences to the victim's family and friends.
I love how easily you can tell if a person is "decent" or not. How do you make these judgements? I'm just curious because I think if I had those powers I could use them them to make friends and determine whether my mechanic is ripping me off.
Realistically, there is no way to determine how decent a person is or isn't without interacting with them and simply judging on appearance. Your true ignorance is on display here. Philly is a diverse city made up of all types of people from all walks of life ... I'm certain the indecent types you refer to may simply be less fortunate or in a different tax bracket than most you would expect to see around City Hall. I've heard of indecent priests, lawyers, judges, politicians, etc ..... But just because they have a suit and briefcase, you somehow fear them less. You come to the city 2 days a week, hopefully one of those days you will get a clue as to how great a city Philly is because of the mix of people.
You could always move to Conneticut.

So true!!
With exceptions of course, most of the murders in Philly correlate directly with the drug business. Unless you're out galavanting with friends from the office at 2am around Broad and Somerset, selling drugs on someone elses corner, or taking a bundle of crack to sell on consignment from a guy named Ace, you should worry more about the armed robbery rate.
When someone is fronted that g-pack from Ace and takes the principal and the profits to the Borgata with his baby momma, he's coming to rob YOU so he can pay Ace. And that's where most of us fit into the big picture.
Usually people don't say "hey, let me go randomly kill some hard working law abiding citizen for the hell of it". There's a reason, usually a reputation to protect or build.

Four shooting incidents across the city yesterday led to the slaying of two people and the wounding of three others, police said. The bloodshed began at about 2:30 a.m., when Barry Jacobs, 26, was shot in the head and chest on Glenloch Street near Strahle in Holmesburg, said police spokeswoman Officer Tanya Little.

At 9:10 a.m., a 14-year-old employee at a neighborhood grocery store at 19th and Cumberland streets in North Philadelphia was wounded in the right shoulder by a stray bullet, Little said. He was listed in stable condition at Temple University Hospital.
