Default PhillyBlog FAQ

FAQ

First things first: What’s a ‘blog’?

A blog – short for “web log” - is defined by various marketing web sites as a frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and Web links.
Blogs are often an intersection between what’s happening in someone’s life and what’s happening on the web. The notion is not new – people have been keeping web diaries, running chat rooms and message boards with similar missions. The difference with a blog is that it is implicitly more personal in nature – respondents to board postings are carrying on an actual dialogue with the board owner(s) that is focused and, in terms of design, contained and directed; there are no conversational tangents unless someone starts a whole new subject.

Okay, now what’s PhillyBlog?

PhillyBlog is the brainchild of four Philadelphians, who decided the web needed a place for constructive, positive, productive dialogue about the city of Philadelphia. The site came about as a result of Urban Warrior Carla Anderson’s call to action, encouraging residents of the area to market our city themselves.

Is this catching on?

In short, yes. We have seen a consistent rise in usage since launch in November, 2002.

Why is PhillyBlog important?

It truly comes from the heart. The PhillyBlog team lives and works in the region. It is entirely personal that we see this region thrive and succeed, so it is with that in mind that we produce the site.

How do I get involved in the discussion?
Visit http://phillyblog.com and register, then blog ‘til your heart’s content! The way the site is now constructed, visitors cannot post without providing e-mail information and a screen name of some sort. This is to protect the integrity of the community – we want people who are going to build it and make it better, not tear it apart. Spammers, scammers and otherwise bad people, be warned.
