Since I live on South I've tried both Phoebe's and Rons. Phoebe's had the better meat. That is, it was very tender. I'd stick with the mild sauce though unless you are into really spicy. The sides were o.k .
Ron's sauce was awesome, more of a traditional vinegary style. The meat though was a little tough. Great yams and mac and cheese though. I heard the pulled pork sandwich is great there. |

I heard great things about Ron's. I tried it and was VERY disappointed.

wil, that's the Rib Crib. I've heard good things about Zeke's in Overbrook (60th and Malvern) as well as LeBreaux's (soul food) in the overbrook train station parking lot. the Abbaye in NoLibs still serves the best chili I've had here though that isn't really bbq.

Phoebe's is definitely the spot I think of when I'm craving some char broiled swine. the $70 family pack with the ribs, chicken, pulled pork, beef brisquet a bunch of sides could feed an army. I hate their cornbread though.

How about the Rib Rack and Rib Rack II? I lived in the NE, near Rib Rack II and heard positive reviews of the ribs etc. Are there any chain BBQ restaurants in Philly?? Red, Hot and Blue isn't good...but Memphis BBQ is quite good if you can find one. In the south you can't throw a jelly bean without hitting a BBQ joint.....usually quite good.

Ever since I moved here from Baltimore 4 years ago, I've been trying to get some good ribs, and RR hit the spot. ![]()
