I love the design. I'm not totally sure if they would be homey places to live but I love the look. It reminds me of the Munich hotel I stayed in last year.

One of the great things about living in an older city is the range of architectural styles that abound. I imagine in 50 years this will look as dated and datable (as in being easily able to put a time period on it) as a Furness Victorian, which I think is a great thing.

Amsterdam too. Not Sure if I like it though. Someone mentioned IKEA which seems accurate. If the peoople in the neighborhood do not mind the lack of conformity then I say go for it especially if people are willing to pay ridiculous prices.

To me lack of conformity is what makes living in real cities so great. If you go for conformity, you get no progress, and you wind up with a place that has a phony Disneyworld thing going for it. If you have even been down the road that goes south out of Taos NM, you'll see what I mean. The faux adobe McDonalds, with the familiar roof, is really stupid. The gas station with the huge adobe overhang over the gas pumps looks like something out of the Flintstones.

but isn't conformity in their case just another case of non-conforming... sur eyou could have buildings be all crazy... but we're going to be different by taking the flintstone look.

seriously though, my time in the phoenix area was really shocking at just how "the same" everything can really look. it was disturbing to me. i really appreciated coming back to "differentness".

The Flintstones effect on the convenience store was wonderfully surreal, but totally not what the intent of the law was I suspect. It seemed more of an unintended consequence. The Taos McDonalds looks like a normal McDonalds with stucco glopped on it, which is really silly. It looks even more dumb surrounded by a sea of blacktop. This stretch of weirdness goes on for a couple of miles.

Would be great if there was a place you could get those Flinstone sized ribs.
