Default What is the best way to deal with squirrel

They are cute but really hurting my garden.

I am thinking buying a cage to catch them and move them to fairmont park, but my friend told me that if they died under the sun before I move them, (I work Monday throught Friday from 8 to 6), I could be sued, is that true?

What is your advice to deal with them?

Thanks for your help

They are brazen little buggers.
Right now I am tosing cayene pepper around.
Two weeks ago I used moth crystals (they play with the moth balls).
My problem is I have a neighbor who feeds them mixed nuts (she is old and lonely).
The critters know I don't like them so I find walnut and peanut shells right out my front door.
Good luck !

Sued by whom? The squirrel's family?

They're hearty bastards. If you're going to set up a live-catch trap in direct Sun, you can always put a piece of board or something over it to protect them from baking. Otherwise, you should be fine.

Default "Deal with Squirrel"

I love how this was worded!
I keep saying it to myself in the voice of Boris Badenov.
"How do I deal with Squuirrel"

I believe you also must deal with Moose!

I've tried it all. One year I bought 2 Havaharts and captured 24 over the summer and dropped them off in Fairmount park (which I discovered later is illegal). The next year was like I hadn't done a thing.
I tried Deer Off, which is the most foul smelling substance on earth - no use.
I did have some success with bulbs by planting them with garden sulfur to block the smell - the little bastards are excellent at sniffing out bulbs.
The best solution I use is coexistence. I plant things they don't seem to want. I've also heard that feeding them in another area keeps them at bay - but I don't think so.
Also, I've had some success with prickly pear cactus around my veg garden. I've seen them get their noses full of those nasty little needles and I'm sure they've learned to avoid that area.
As far as property damage - I don't know.

Default you could

hanging shiny foil in a lot of places
pie pans (throw away) are good as they also make some noise

or

try moth flakes
squirrels and many other animals will avoid them
be careful of domestic animals as they could also be toxic

other than that ... stew ... or they will be tough and chewy

No, you can't be sued. As Simon said,
Quote:

Theoretically, it could be a criminal offense, but I don't think it is, any more than it would be a crime to kill a mouse or rat in your house. Let's face it: a squirrel is just a rat with a decorative tail.

Is this a vegetable garden or a flower/ornamental garden? If vegetable: have you tried putting a cage around it? And I mean "around" -- you have to get the top too, or they'll get just climb over! Of course, you need to leave a way to get yourself inside and get the veggies, something that requires opposable thumbs to open.
