Can't be demo'd due to the PCP's and other chemicals inside. (this is why you see power plants sitting empty and unused for decades and decades) It will sit vacant for a long time I am afraid. It could be adapted for re-use which would entail containment and removal of some things to make it usable.

Well I would much rather it sit vancant than be demoed. That building is beautiful and I would love to see it re-used like the Chester Power Station has been. I was just wondering because of the equiptment I saw parked next to it and some rumors od demolition. I also heard they lay just take down the 4 smoke stacked addtion they added to it I think in the early 1950's.

But its not actually totally vacant. The front section of the old plant is still used and maintained by PECO

It could have to do with the filming of Transformers 2.

If someone could find a large tenant/company that wanted the space, it could be renovated, as they did with the very similar chester power station.

I suspect that once sugarhouse gets built, the power station will be looked at quite a bit for potential conversion.

Went by the site today and they were taking apart and scapping the old oil storage tanks.

Exelon, the parent of PECO, has announced that they intend to build a new natural gas-fired generating facility to meet the growing demand for electricity. A site has not been been announced yet, but it will be built on land that the corporation already owns. The old Richmond Generating Facility is certainly a contender.

Interesting, how will that impact the neighbor hood? More jobs with little pollution, but will the fact that it is a power plant still hurt property values?

It would be a shame to see either of these two buildings go. They are beautiful both on the inside and the outside. The architecture is amazing.

Is this the place you're talking about or is it the plant near the B.R. bridge ?
