Well with the north facade now removed you can see..

It can't really be converted because basically it's an engine with a mortar wrap.

as most power plants are.

Not a box with stuff inside.

Stuff with a wall attached to it.

That sucks they are teearing down the old structure, as that is what I take that article to have said. I dont mind the new one but the old one has such great architecture for an industrial building.

They really should try to get it converted to offices or condos. They did it with the Chester Power Station a few years back.

The inside of these generating stations are incredible.

The old power plant in Chester is of the same vintage as this PECO one, and is nearly identical to it - and it has been successfully converted into an office complex.

It would be the ultimate headquarters for a "green" energy company. Recycling at it's best.

For $55,000,000

and 10 years of no taxes.

so the state had to pay someone to move in and pay to clean it up.

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpag...=&pagewanted=2

Cleaning alone was $10,000,000

How much office park can you rent for that?

THe company only did it becuase of the hand-out taxpayers gave them.

Yeah... anything can be done with money and no taxes.

but will the cost ever be recouped by Chester?

and will Synergy relocate when the abatement runs out?

The same question goes for Philadelphia.

It's like we run cities on credit now and not taxes.

and the only way you can "restore" these buildings is to run up the credit card i the hopes of being able to pay it off in the future.

So... should the city run up the credit cards to have someone locate to the river and not pay taxes?

The remediation costs are the same if you demo the structure. I agree that converting the building to office space was probably not cost effective.
