I have found two listings on this block that interest me and I am looking for any feedback from anybody in or familiar with the immediate vicinity The nearest cross streets would be Trenton
Ave and Martha St. |

I know your post is about the 2100 block, however my only experience is on the 2300 block of Cambria St. Hopefully it is of some use to you. My grandmother lives there. Not a very nice street at all. Some drug activity, a decent amount of auto traffic, her basement windows were busted out...... I do know that Philadelphia infamously varies from block to block in terms of perceived safety. I would suggest taking a walk or at least a ride by the spot you're looking at, in the morning, afternoon, evening and LATE evening to get a feel for the neighborhood. Go for a couple days, to see what it's like on the weekend versus the week as well. That's been a fair gauge in my experience. Good luck to you!

All the towns that I've visited that were predominantly "Jewish" were always safe, clean and affluent...or is "Jewtown" your description of "not a very desirable location?" Not to get personal, just curious. Lived here a little over 20yrs. Never heard of "Jewtown."

I assume it used to be a Jewish community a LONG time ago.You probably will not find any Jewish people living there now I'm not sure how it got the name but that's what people have been calling it for as long as i can remember.

I'm not saying that,it depends on your situation. If your single, looking short term, why not buy there. There are quieter streets in the area, then again that can change overnight with things the way they are there.I'm just saying I don't see anything good happening there for a long time.

If your economic situation is not going to significantly change down the line, then you will never be able to afford a house in a "non-hellhole" area. Personally, I hate rent and think that ownership is much better. At very least you will be building equity if you buy, whereas if you just rent, what do you get? A lack of maintenance and responsibility? That's about it. |
