It's really not that much of a hellhole.

I walk around there at all hours of the night, and I've never had a problem.

Get to know your neighbors and you'll be fine.

You can't beat the price and the proximity to transportation and grocery stores. Plus, the colorful characters you meet while waiting in the Chinese restaurant make it all worthwhile.

I would consider that area rough but its a main st and convinient and if you are willing to put up with the scene livelable.

So far as a cheap house for your money its not bad. If my main objective was an affordable house in a convinenent location I would look on the other side of Trenton closer to aramingo or further north up past allegheny east of kensington ave. these areas are grtty but have great access and some really low prices and are not nearly as intimidating as the neighborhoods west of kensington ave.

Smile just moved to 2300 block Cambria

I recently moved to Cambria (2300 block). Just bought my first home and honestly in most ways I love it. Big homes, close to all shopping, parks, transportation etc. It is a bit dicey but times are changing and this is Philly. The block is changing quickly. Many renters are moving out due to their homes being sold. 2 houses are being torn down. The house I bought was empty for a year. Our stoop was a hangout. Now they hangout across the street but soon those houses will be gone.

It's a mixed block which I really like and people are friendly enough. It needs some clean up (a lot of trash) but I'm working on it and hoping some other's will follow.

plus it's not far from Greensgrow and there is an artist space that opened up on Sommerset around the corner.

After reading about the arson murder on this block, I guess this might not be that good of a locale
