I know the Harrowgate plaza on Tioga Street at H was a cemetery before it became the Acme, now ghetto mart. My grandmother's parents and some of her other family members were buried there. They were given no choice in the early 60's when the site was being readied for construction. My grandmother was told the bodies would be moved to a cemetery in Frazer. It was horrible for her family because they didn't have a lot of money and no way to go to Frazer to see her parents. She first time she ever got there was when she was buried with them in 2000.
We've always wondered how many bodies are under that asphalt. |

First off I was referring to the fact that Harrowgate Plaze had an Acme in the 1970's. It closed down around 1991. WAY BEFORE you moved into the neighborhood. Do you think Cousins just up and built a supermarket there? No. In that plaza there was a beer distributor, an ACME, a dry cleaner, a deli, and a McCrory's.
I have pictures of my great grand parents graves when the plaza was a cemetery back in the 1950's. Kensington existed long before you and the Cousins market moved into the neighborhood ![]() |
