Default Granular Refuse

I know we're picking up litter of Friday, but the thing that annoys me most is all the sand/stone/gravel that accumulates on the streets. Is there any plan for the city to do a massive street sweep? I can't recall the last time I saw a street sweeper(one that was actually sweeping) outside of CC. I realize moving cars off blocks may be difficult, but couldn't this be coordinated every spring?

Anyone know how many sweepers the city owns?

I actually don't know if the city has any plans to do this, but I have to say that I'm with you on this one. It drives me up the wall that the city doesn't clean the streets. As for it being a hassle, it really wouldn't be. I lived in southern CA for years and there was weekly street sweeping. There were signs that told you which side of the street to park on during a given night. It never was that big of a hassle. I would love to see that happen all over Philly. Every time I have friends visit here, they always comment about how dirty the city is. Even friends who have never visited have told me that they heard Philly was dirty. I hope that this Saturday clean-up isn't a flash in the pan. Sigh...

John Street is gone we're not allowed to sigh anymore! Maybe I'll just buy a street sweeper and drive around all night drinking and sweeping. How much could they possibly cost?

I've seen the street sweeper trucks on Lehigh Ave. However, all they did was push the dirt on the streets onto the sidewalks.

Thumbs up Go green

Use the gravel/sand to fill cracks in sidewalks.

It's what we do in the hinterlands.

Remember; reduce, reuse, recycle.

I wrote to Councilman DiCicco's office and asked why we never see any street sweepers in the neighborhood anymore. I was told that residents complained too much about having to move their cars. Unbelievable. I urge everybody to please complain about it, maybe they'll listen if enough people complain.

My parents neighborhood in the NE gets them every week. Even the worst streets in North Philly get street sweepers. I used to see them every week when I worked around the Strawberry Mansion area. You could drop a bomb in that neighborhood and no one would notice and even THEY get street cleanings.

You would have to move your car every week(or twice a week) because they would do one side of the street twice a week.

Ok, imagine all of the cars on 3rd, 4th and 5th st on one side somewhere else...

Not against the idea, but it is a little difficult to get more support for something that wasn't in place before all the new cars moved in.

BTW, the sand/stone/gravel is still around due to we did not get any snow this winter, thus the sand/stone/gravel did not go with the snow when it melted and moved...hopefully after a couple of rainstorms it'll all be gone...

I'm gonna get my ass kicked. I sent the streets dept an email that we could use a street sweeping on 2nd St and now they're actually doing it! I expect a riot when everyone sees they need to move their cars on Saturday.

Get out and sweep your sidewalks people. Get all the gravel and crap into the street for sweeping!

Correction, they're sweeping TOMORROW(Friday). if you live on 2nd above Girard, don't forget to move your car tonight or by 7 tomorrow.

If it's just occasional, that's fine... but the signs you see up all over South Philly and probably Fishtown\Kenzo also, that say "Street Cleaning, Friday 7am-9am" or something along those lines, were put up a few years ago, it became such a hassle to move the car every week to one side of the street that people complained and it eventually stopped. I wouldn't mind like once a month or something, but every week was just very inconvenient!
