I've more than a couple stacks of cardboard to put out, so it'd be nice to actually know... "Current information" at 215-686-5560 was useless ("All garbage and recycling trucks are on schedule, goodbye <click>"), but the human being was very helpful and confirmed that the areas that philly.com article said would switch over to single-stream on 5 May did. Woo hoo! |

If you're "blue" and your trash is picked up on Friday, yes. (I assume that's true for you since you were asking about tomorrow explicitly, but I don't think it's true for all of area covered by this section of phillyblog.)

Walking the dogs tonight, it seems like everyone got this news. Everyone has their cute "RECYCLING" marked containers...everyone seems excited and oddly compliant. I promptly followed suit and marked up those killer $1 room trash cans from Ikea...not too miffed if THOSE get stolen.

Good!
Maybe it's about time that someone takes a day off work and tails the recycling truck to make sure that it results in actual recycling. It's not just the pessimist in me that makes me say that, but also friends who still fail to put out recycling (in each of South and West Philly, in these cases) because of (ancient and no longer true, I hope) rumors that Philadelphia recycling just ends up in the dumps. (I think that was in the news media in the mid '90s, but apparently well-meaning people still think that's true and don't bother to separate recyclable materials as a result.) |

I've seen with my own eyes the trash men putting both recycling and my trash in the same truck.
However, after I complained about that to the trash dept....They no longer pick up my recycling. So, I've called them numerous times over 6 months and have gotten my recycling picked up 3 times in six months. I even taped a piece of cardboard to a telephone poll, so they couldn't say they didn't see it. (Which is their typical explanation when I call) Oh and the cardboard sign got me a warning from the police. CORRUPT AND INEPT. I desperately want to recycle but I highly doubt all of our recyclables get recycled at all. |
