Kung Fu Neck Tie

"...I'm hearin' that all pipes are solid at artist/Lit Lounge co-owner David Schwartz's new Fishtown bar, Kung Fu Neck Tie at Front and Thompson. He's looking at New Year's Eve for its opening night." Does anyone know the scoop about this place? (Please don't turn this into a it's not Fishtown discussion). I'm looking for a place for NYE and was wondering if this will fit the bill.

I was in there Wednesday and it's still The Penalty Box. I highly doubt they'll be ready to go by New Years. I did discover that they have the greatest toilet known to man at The Penalty Box. If you have a moment, stop by and check out the men's room. It's amazing.

But this isn't Fishtown.
Kidding! What's with the name? An ironic word combo? I've heard about this in the works for a while. Nice to see a new place opening soon. Last I heard Rumrunners on Montgomery should have an early 2008 opening and the settlement for Nodding Head at Cumberland and Memphis happened last week...

No, that was its last name. It's going to be one of the owner's son's names from what I remember from that FNA meeting.

As far as I know it will remain the Penalty Box for now... my neighbor went to a local meeting(FNA or NKDC???) re that business and he said that the new plans were rejected as the PB owner made his presentation and at the last minute said 'and by way of passing I am selling the bar to this guy' ... or something like that and everyone was like "whooa larry, not so fast!". I guess they want whomever is buying the PB to come before them and make a presentation re the changes? I dunno, whatever but it is still the PB.
Nodding Head in Fishtown/N Kensington? Damn................

The Penalty Box - Kung Fu Neck Tie
The bar is currently the Penalty Box. The bar will remain the Penalty Box until the licience is switched over, if it ever gets switched over. At the present time there is no scheduled settlement date. So, the way things are moving, Kung Fu Neck Tie may be opening for New Year's Eve in 2008!
Also, in regards to zoning, the vote will take place after the bar switches hands. The neighbors and neighborhood supported The Penalty Box but they have no idea what the new owner/owners are going to do. Mr and Mrs Penalty Box
