Patience is a good thing, you guys need to relax. No really, this is gonna be a great bar. They have a great concept and it should be a nice change to whats going on in Philly right now. The beer is gonna be great (lots of micro) and the atmosphere is gonna be unique. I know Jim and Dave want to eventually get some solid punk bands in there and even hold after hour parties for larger bands. It's taking longer than expected to open because they ran into some issues with L & I and other legal hoops that they misunderstood. Thats the nature of the bar business in Philly (everyone wants their piece of the pie). So once its ready they're gonna have a great place to go besides these posh, velvet covered douche bag hang outs that everyone opens. The name is something you need to ask Jim about but it's his way of saying "**** you" to all the douche bag bar names everyone comes up with like "the dougout" or "Swanky Bubbles", "Blu Martini" and all those other lame names.

So, on a nother note... I hear that the American Auto building on Girard, was sold and the plans are to make that into a Bar/Restaurant with a roof deck. Anyone can confirm?

Brooke, If you read my remark carefully you'll notice I started the next sentence with "No really...", meaning I was kidding in the previous remarks. I just joined and noticed this thread so I thought it was funny how people start talking about places. I just wanted give a small update on the plans and thought since I haven't noticed another comment on the bar that I would chime in. Sooooorrrryyyyyy! Jeesh.

Wow. You should relax, hh.
I'm completely confused which portions of this relate to reality and which don't. Fortunately, I can walk around an extra block on the way to the El tomorrow morning and look, then decide, first, whether what I see's worth mentioning here and, second, whether anyone's likely to believe some anonymous twit on the Internet. (If I were you, "dear" reader, and I were laying bets, I'd go with "no" on each of those... but, hey, I may actually remember and come post. Still better odds than most rolls in AC.) |

OK Grammar, I didn't realize I was anonymous. Again I must have struck a cord with one of your favorite hangouts? Sorry if I offended you by saying that most bar names are lame but I wasn't talking to you. I was answering the question posted asking how they came up with the name. Otherwise, you can stop in anytime you like, have a beer and relax with me since I need to relax (but I bet you don't associate with "twits" like me). Nice word (twit), it's kinda retro and simple at the same time but I think it lacks the umphhh you were seeking.

Will this be open by the end of the Summer? Another bar I can walk to in a few minutes is always good.

WQ, I don't have an exact date of their opening. They had some issues with L&I and other people dipping hands into their pockets. I can tell you they have spent a lot of $ getting this place up to par because the previous owner let it go to pot. I can tell you it will look nothing like the old PB (with all due respect) and it will feature some great artwork since the two owners are artists (fine art grads) and serious punk / hard music. They are two regular guys busting their butts to bring something great to Philly. If you chat with Jim you'll find he's got his finger on the pulse and lives in the city so he understands the dynamics of the scene.
