Default 3 hour projects needed for youth on July 4

We have a group of 70 teenagers (with adult leaders) who are looking to do 3 hours of community service on the morning of July 4 (from 9 am - 12 noon). I already have tasks for many of them, and will probably send some out to pick up trash from the streets. However, if there's any specific projects that you're aware of, please let me know.

For example, in the past they've cleaned up the sidewalk where a house had collapsed after a fire. They've cleaned up trash in many of the parks. They've painted benches at Penn Treaty. They've built wheelchair ramps (although that would be hard to do in 3 hours).

You get the idea...

Great idea.

If I had more notice we could set up a crew to mulch, prune and take care of the Cherry Trees in Fairmount. But for that I need to coordinate with the park to get a tractor and tools.

Please contact me if this comes up again as I work with them on a regular basis.

I'll see if I can get a city dump truck assigned and maybe we could clean up the tracks. I'll do what I can.

If you need an additional chaperone let me know.

In another town I used to take people to a soup kitchen and we'd do all kinds of things. We served food, packed donated canned goods in bags, and sorted donated clothes. All of this took many hours and the food part developed both prep skills and social as you have to deal with some unusual characters.

There's got to be stuff like that in Philly, and I'm sure the regular workers will enjoy the break.

Thanks for the suggestion.
However, that's what they're doing the rest of the week.
The organizations they work with are all closing down on the 4th,
so we're looking for alternatives for that day.
That's why the suggestion of neighborhood cleanup projects and similar things.

What about a clean-up at Schissler of the field? That always looks pretty rough.
