Re-Introduction to Photography



Description:
This is a five-week class for those who have taken a photography class before and who want a refresher course. The main emphasis will be placed on the thorough overview of basic technical skills such as understanding of a camera, proper exposure, effects of shutter speeds and apertures, as well as composition. In the darkroom the class will cover the basic procedures of film processing and printing concisely and thoroughly.
Though this is a refresher course, there will be an assignment in order to explore the aesthetics of photography as well as a critique in order to recognize various visual elements and their functions in pictures.
In addition to the in-class meetings, there will be occasional shooting trips and museum and gallery tours outside the class. Although these are not mandatory, students are highly encouraged to attend these extra sessions.

Day Class:
Thursdays, 12 noon - 3 pm
May 31 - June 28

Evening Class:
Fridays, 7 pm - 10 pm
June 22 - July 20

Materials needed:
A 35mm SLR camera with 50mm lens
Films (Kodak Tri-X, Ilford HP5+ or equivalent)
8x10 RC paper
Air blower (Cans or manual)
Negative sleeves
A pair of scissors
An apron

Prerequisite: None
Fee: $240 + lab fee of $30

Course outline:
Week 1: Orientation, lecture on the exposure, and 1st assignment
Week 2: Film processing
Week 3: Contact sheet making and printing
Week 4: Printing and film processing
Week 5: Critique for 1st assignment

If you need any help I am a digital head and have done many intro to photography training sessions in Delaware. I havn't touched the darkroom in a while but I know once I'm back in there It will all come back to me quickly. Not much work for us small time photographers unless you have money to spend and want to branch off onto your own and I'm not ready for that yet. Anyways I hope to meet some new people to work with and all that good stuff.
