Default new newspaper to serve Fishtown community

The Spirit newspaper has arrived, and is here to serve the people in
Fishtown, Richmond, Kensingtona and NL communities.
Staffed by loyal members of the old Star (before it was sold
to a huge corporation), we aim to be as good as the old Star...but
we need your support ...and your news!

Our first issue is October 13, and we come out every week thereafter.
We're located at 109 East Girard Ave, right next to Johnny
Brenda's. Phone: 215.423.6246. Email: spiritnews@comcast.net.

Send us news of people, of organizations, send us photos and
"breezes," news of schools, churches, everything. [/b]

I'd heard some rumblings about a new paper, and am excited to see it's come to fruition. Welcome to the 'hood, Carol & her Spirit!

I think I will be quoted in it...it was the first time I was interviewed for anything in print and I'm nervous it will come out wrong and everyone will hate me! I'm crossing my fingers!

I got quoted in a paper once and it sounded terrible. Can't wait to get a hold of the first Spirit

I'd be nervous that it will come out accurate, and everybody will hate you. ;-)

Oh no, I don't mean it will be inaccurate--I mean that it won't come out in print how I meant it. I gave comments on the Frankford Avenue clean-up to a really nice woman who was there from The Spirit. She also took photos of me sweeping and weeding that I hope don't get in the paper!!!

just to dispel some half-thruths, most of the old star staff still works for the new star, and they work very, very hard at getting the paper to everyone each week. i should know, i'm the managing editor.

but, good luck to the spirit! two papers only means the community is served even better.

Thanks for chiming in. Incidentally, I like the new Star better than the old one but I'm a new resident. However, one gripe I have (and have always had) is that news isn't a week in advance. So many times I have read The Star on Wednesday night to find out I missed a meeting an hour earlier! It's frustrating!

But keep up the good word and know we still appreciate you!

well, you should start reading it earlier (that's sarcasm, i don't know if you guys have a sarcasm emoticon on here or not). we try and get as much stuff in in advance as possible, but it always seems like the one thing we miss was the most important thing. but that's the way of the world, and we're always trying to do better. thanks for reading brooke.
