"I think Fishtown residents must decide if they want a solid, good-looking community newspaper with meaningful stories on issues and local people, which the Star strives to produce, or the dull, rewritten news releases showcased in a dull, circus layout, which the Spirit produces with ease. "
Wel I m an Fishtown rezidet and I hav desided that I covet the dull, rewritten news releases showcased in a dull, circus layout WITHOUT ALL THOSE DAMN ADVERTISEMENTS. Congratulations to all BUSH supporters. :rolling_: :clapping: |

I like that we have the option of both papers. The stories in either paper don't differ enough to split my opinion on either one. We just get a slightly different take. Plus I'm not paying for them. So that's awesome.
I was mad at first that the Star sold to a bigger business. It was our only neighborhood paper. I like reading about who's bike got stolen and Walt Pomroy's charitable conquests. When the Star sold, I knew it meant more ads and news that would interest the changing neighborhood demographic. But now we have the option to look at two free neighborhood papers. So where's the conflict? It's free. Hats off to both papers. Keep doing what you're doing - giving me free news. :argue: What really surprises me is that this debate is even happening. I mean, who'd have thought we had this many people in Fishtown who can read AND write! We've come a long way, baby! Woohoo! Before people start hammering me with angry posts, take it into consideration that the last paragraph was a joke.

A fish does seem rather appropriate as a symbol for Fishtown.
However, I think I'd like to have a more colorful interpretation than I've generally seen used. Perhaps something like this: ![]() Or, if we want to be a little truer to the neighborhood character: ![]()

It seems to me people should be able to read two newspapers. Intelligent people do it all the time. Those on staff at the Spirit would rather you don't believe this is so even though it's clear which paper is more superior. Here's a clue Spirit -you get what you pay for. You want quality writing, pay your writers quality wages.
