Default Community meeting re: Waterfront Redevelopment 9/27

A Community Briefing on Redeveloping the Delaware River Waterfront will be held:

Monday, September 27, 6:45pm

First Presbyterian Church

418 E. Girard Avenue
, between Palmer & Columbia

Sponsored by the Neighborhood Advisory Committee of New Kensington CDC, funding provided by the Philadelphia Office of Housing and Community Development.

The Delaware River waterfront from Penn Treaty Park to the Bucks County Line is a corridor of older industrial and shipping uses and vacant land, reflecting the waterfront of the past. But what could this waterfront become in the future? Public officials and planners see a transformed area oriented toward the river rather than away from it, providing new housing, recreational, retail and cultural uses integrated with older still viable uses. They envision a waterfront with improved links to nearby neighborhoods, enriching the economy and cultural life of the entire city.

This meeting will provide an opportunity for residents to learn from knowledgeable speakers about the vision for the waterfront, with an emphasis on the segments closer to Penn Treaty Park. The speakers will also help attendees explore possible effects on adjacent neighborhoods and how residents and community groups can participate in the redevelopment process to protect and enhance their quality of life.

For more information contact Duane or Lauri at NKCDC, 215-427-0350 extension 119 or 116.

Yeah, maybe it can be as nicely executed as the trolley along Girard. Maybe build 3/4 of it and then stop...

Urrrrgh.

Will try to make this meeting.

Isn't it more like 98% of it?

I read the page about the Greenway.
Anybody else find this quote ironic for a Greenway?

"The physical improvements will include, bringing lights, benches, kiosks, signs and even pavement to the Pennsylvania Trail."

Default Section-8 coming to a river near U.

I can assure you that nothing is going to occur in our lifetime. The entire area from Penn Treaty Park to Bucks County is a brown site. It will cost billions of dollars to clean up most of the areas unless they decide to burry it under concrete. How long have we waited for the Penn's landing renovation - forever.

If this meeting is about anything its about Low-income housing. PHA & the new kenzo development corp can't wait to get their hands on any property close to the river. Imagine how satisfied they are going to feel when the new low-income highrise opens on Delaware Avenue overshadowing the middle class neighborhoods of Fishtown & NL.

the greenway is just the way they are going to take your property

for the sake of preserving AMERICA

AND THEY WILL ADD TOLLS TO 95 TO "FUND" IT

they are doing stuff like this all over America

Government funded and PRIVATELY owned

Thats not what america is about..

You want a greenway get out their with a shovel, and stop expecting Government handouts,
before you put your handout and lose it :clapping:
