Default that bookstore in no libs closed

Shouldn't this be the nolibs/fishtown topic.

Anyway I can't recall the name of the bookstore up there kitty corner to the tap. It was a little place but it was pretty cool, they are closed as of sunday.

The lady working said that they are re-opening in a building nearby but that would probably take years...

Another book store bites the dust. I d/n see the big jar bookstore in old city on sunday, did I just walk by it? It it gone as well?

She didn't mention that. She said the owner of the building owned the building next door, across the lot, and they'd move there when it had been re-vamped. He was tired of paying rent I guess. So anyway that space, which is pretty nice is available.

Sher Books? I believe it's forever closed...

No, it shouldn't be both! Two different communities, two different sets of issues.

Hey now there is a manayuck/east falls/rox something or other topic. Where is the no-libs topic? We all know fishtown was just bolted on to the back of the no-libs gentrification. Where's the love?

I remember reading a piece on the guy who owns Sher Books - he has sort of a novel way of doing business - it's sort of like you have to make an appointment to buy a book.

I guess it didn't work out to well. They had a decent little selection and the books were in good shape in general. I'm sorry to see them go. There is a severe shortage of bookstores in Philly. Winter is coming too. We need some books!

Quote:
scratch monkey - As in "Before testing or reconfiguring, always mount a scratch monkey", a proverb used to advise caution when dealing with irreplaceable data or devices. Used to refer to any scratch volume hooked to a computer during any risky operation as a replacement for some precious resource or data that might otherwise get trashed.

This term preserves the memory of Mabel, the Swimming Wonder Monkey, star of a biological research program at the University of Toronto. Mabel was not (so the legend goes) your ordinary monkey; the university had spent years teaching her how to swim, breathing through a regulator, in order to study the effects of different gas mixtures on her physiology. Mabel suffered an untimely demise one day when a DEC engineer troubleshooting a crash on the program's VAX inadvertently interfered with some custom hardware that was wired to Mabel.
