at about 6:30pm i was heading out on bike when from my side yard on cambridge street i heard a convoy of cars blaring horns and yelling out tom knox chants driving down 6th street. they stopped every so often, blasting horns, posting signs, yelling "VOTE TOM KNOX" out of megaphones. i followed 8 or so cars decorated with tom knox posters down to market street. they blared their horns all the way.
tom knox, this obnoxious (pun sorta intended) tactic will NOT win you my vote. your henchmen are annoying more than persuasive. we do not need any more blaring car horns than we already have. jerks. you know what would win my vote? guys wearing "vote whomever" t-shirts or sandwich boards sweeping our litter-strewn alleys or sidewalks. THAT's effective campaigning. NOT sticking 12 lawn signs in the dirt which i KNOW you won't be back to pick up after the election. |

You haven't seen anything.
Can you imagine would it would be like if Johnny Doc was still running for mayor? Local 98 goons would be all over the city (who live in the suburbs) pitching for their man.

I got the Chaka Fattah van down my street on Friday. Speakers mounted on top of a minivan cruising slowly down Poplar. Annoying, but classic East Coast old time politics. You just don't get this stuff in California; I'm a politics geek so I think it's kinda cool.

i'm just a firm believer in actions over words. this is ironic because at the same time i am also an admitted message board addict.
anyway, the offer still stands... northern liberties has PLENTY of sidewalks to sweep to gain my vote. or how about donating a power-washer or street sweeper from old city to our hood for the day? or plant a few trees in liberty lands park? fix a pothole? pour a new sidewalk? i even think it would even be fun if the candidates all took part in one of the muralarts murals. damnit, those candidates raise plenty of money to litter parks with those signs when the dollars could be put right back into the city via creative campaigning. i'm all for the candidate who does productive campaigning. post here if you have any examples of candidates who practice anything of this sort. they'll happily get my vote. on an unrelated note, i just noticed they have badger icons on here. fabulous! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yeah, if I had a nickel for every Brady sign...
...And from the poll results, apparently ONLY people in Fishtown like him. Most of the Fishtowners I know are voting for Nutter.

okay, admittedly, i haven't done my research. i spent a couple hours perusing the least biased websites i could find as well as the candidate's webpages but........ not too many candidates really stick out as shining stars (like, say, howard dean did). from what i've read, though (and please correct me if you know otherwise) bob brady seems to have an interest in developing the north side of the city, up broad and up the delaware, flanking our neighborhoods. i like that it seems like he's paying attention to this area and even farther out. at the moment my vote is leaning that way. nutter is a close second.
