Sure, redevelopment breeds further redevelopment, to an extent. But with the Street administration's hands-off, no-planning, any-development-is-good philosophy, I don't have much confidence that what we get will truly be in the best interests of the given neighborhood. It may, or it may not, and if there is smart development like Universal's it'll be through simple good luck.

It's great to hear communities actually getting to be part of the revitalization efforts. As Brooke alluded to, some of these developers/realtors/visionaries are looking to pump-n-dump as much property as they can to ride fence-jumpers all the way to the bank. Well I think that was her point...if not, it's mine

It's got to be one of the greatest challenges for those who want to bring the neighborhoods along for the ride: how to improve a neighborhood without kicking out the neighbors. Easier to kick them out. Shame.

In any case, a couple of big cheers for North Philly!

Here, here. I second that opinion. And unless the community is strong enough to stand up for themselves, the developers do whatever brings them the largest margins the fastest.

That rarely coincides with what is best for a community over the long-term.

I believe Univeral is a non-profit but I could be mistaken. I don;t know much about 'em. And I'm glad there is a hands off approach. most of the stuff the city has been involved with is ghastly.
