Went to brunch today @ The Std. Tap and was walking around afterwards and went up the road between 2nd & 3rd from Std. Tap, I think it was N. American Street walking towards Girard and saw 3-4 aluminum clad ultra modern apartments right by a community garden. This is near Blatsteins project and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about these buildings???

Dave's thinking of Liberties Walk, I believe:
http://www.towerdev.com/libwalk.html Though what Damon's describing may be a little apart from that. Fact is, all around 2nd & 3rd there are ultra-modern houses going up. It's really going to change the look of that part of the neighborhood, for better or worse. |

The metal clad-housing on North American Street is separate from Blatstein's development on North 2nd. From what I know, all four houses are sold. Three went to private owners for between $350-$450 while the fourth is owned by the builder. Most people in the neighborhood are pretty excited by the look of some of these "ultra-modern" new residences that invoke the spirit of the Capitol Meats building on Laurel. Developers are being encouraged by the zoning committee to think outside of the box and to steer away from the brick rowhouse with garage template. In fact, the neighborhood is much more pleased with Blatstein's revised design for Liberties Walk and the Piazza since he had Erdy McHenry update his first go with more glass and stone (as opposed to all brick as previous renditions of the project proposed).

Wait a minute... metal clad! *snaps fingers*
You're thinking of those buildings across the street from Liberty Park (or whatever it's called). I don't think those are apartments at all, I think they're actually artist studios and nobody really lives there, per say. If you look in the windows, you'll see a bunch of half finished pottery and stuff.

Yep... those are the ones. I plan on going back by with some of my photo gear as they are just striking buildings in that area. there are 3 occupied and the 4th had carpenters all over it the other day, if you check them out from the other side though they do look like occupied units rather than artists studio's.... though they could be artists residences/studio spaces. I want one of those!!!

They are four single family, owner-occupied homes. I attended the open house for the third unit (from the south end) last fall. It was listed for $450,000 and sold that day at the open house.
