The last couple of times that I've had breakfast at Sulimay's the food was really dry, something not quite right. So recently I've been going to what my father always referred to as "Gussie's" at Frankford and Jirrod and the food is always consistently good. Gussie's granddaughter is easy to look at also. Anyway, which joint do the locals prefer? Do the long time residents prefer one over the other? Personally, I won't be patronizing Sulimay's any time soon.

By "Gussie's", I presume you mean the Acropolis.
Some locals like one more, others like the other more. They serve different types of food in different ways. Based on observation, I think the Acropolis does more business. You might also want to check out Ida Mae's (Tulip & Susquehanna) after it opens this Thursday. If you're willing to go to Port Richmond, Mercer Cafe is outstanding.

I don't know--I love Sulimay's. It's always packed when I go on the weekends. I love their potatoes but try not to eat them much. I've never been to the Acropolis---in the days pre-smoking ban, I heard it was super smoky so I avoided it. Now I've just gotten used to Sulimay's. Maybe I'll try out Acropolis the next time...I found out that if you get up early on a weekend, there aren't many brunch places open pre-11am North of Center City.

I'm right by the Betsy Ross bridge. Where exactly is the Mercer and could you give me some info about the prices and menu? Breakfast, lunch and dinner?

It's right at Almond and Westmoreland. Here's their site:
http://www.mercerstreetcafeonline.com/ I never had breakfast there, but many lunches. It looks like they're open now for dinner on Friday.
