For awhile I did tons of hours at NE, so that got me there in the first place. I kept going there (they have take out, too) after the NE gig ended, cuz I like the place and have friends that live around there. (Lifelong PR folks, haha--they like it but scoff at the prices)

You ever eat at Syrenka's at Richmond and Allegheny? Good stuff! Scoff! LOL! Good word. I scoff at Tacconelli's prices! (Though it wasn't always that way)

Check your coloring on your computer--no redhair here and I promise I don't look like her. But no, I'm from Upstate NY--5 hours from NYC so you can't even blame it on NYC! I simply have asthma and a family with adult onset diabetes.

I've never been to Mercer Street Cafe...time to start going apparently. When do they open on the weekend mornings?

They open at 8 am. Yeah, the diabetes thing sucks, I have people in my family who got it later in life. I try to keep my weight down to between 175 and 180, I lost 20# of holiday fat since New Year's. No smoking, minimal alcohol intake and lots of walking. Luckily, I have a job that allows me to walk all day. I feel so much better when I'm moving and eating plenty of fruit and vegetables. I got scared when my older brother got diabetes. I'm trying to impress on my younger brother the importance of eating somewhat healthy, believe me, I'm not Mr. Perfect Eater. I do the best I can while still trying to enjoy life, as you know, it's difficult. You'd probably look good as a redhead.

Mercer Cafe rocks! The price is very reasonable considering the quality of food. When my husband and I go there it never adds up to more than $25 and we get things like crab and asparagus omelets (I'm getting hungry just thinking about it).

If you are an early riser, we also go to Honey's Sit and Eat at 4th and Brown. They open at 8am and the food is yummy and reasonably priced as well. They have a southern/Jewish fusion menu. Last weekend I had whole wheat pancakes with granola and they were awesome!

If this was directed towards me, I was referring to the Mercer Street Cafe. I've also had lunch and dinner there. My only complaint is the size of the place. I've never had to wait but I wish it was a tad larger.

Happy eats.....

This is seriously good food. I have yet to find someone who dislikes Honey's and I've dragged A LOT of people there. Best during the weekdays for breakfast...I hear very early on the weekends but I'd have to avoid going to sleep to make it there...
