The Triangle: Fishtown, Lower Kensington, Port Richmond
Hey everybody...wandering where to move that is close to the city (less than a 20 minutes on SEPTA and probably even shorter on a bike) but still has the flavor of northern liberties and community feel of fishtown without the inflation? I live in a little area between what is considered fishtown and port richmond. The best way I can describe this area is by defining it with commonly known streets...think Cumberland Street to Lehigh Avenue and then Richmond Street to Aramingo Avenue. This little area is sometimes called Fishtown or Lower Kensington, other times its called Port Richmond, I just call it the Triangle because that is where all three neighborhoods seem to meet. Right around the corner from my house on Huntindgon Street, is the old pickle factory on Lehigh Ave. which is being renovated into 38 artist lofts complete with private balconies and parking. There are also two extremely convenient bus routes (the 15 and the 39) both of which can take you to the Girard Ave. or Huntingdon Street El stops in less than 10 minutes. There is a beautiful firehouse right up the street at Huntingdon and Aramingo as well as a pharmacy, WaWa, and a gas station. There is also a bank being built. Right around the corner on Somerset Street is Tacconelli's Pizzeria, the best pizza in the city, hands down, as well as an artsy coffe bar and dessert shop called The Hinge. For foodshopping I can walk to the Thriftway which is at Cumberland and Aramingo. That's in what is considered the Port Richmond Village, which is also home to a Hollywood video, a tanning salon, a law office, Rita's waterice, a pet store, a Duncan Donuts and an awesome thrift store. It is unbelievably convenient and just waiting to explode. Look into it!
