Default Port Richmond

Hello All. I just bought a house in Port Richmond about a month ago and I am looking for some local input on places to go in the neighborhood. I've been to the Hinge and Mercer Street Cafe (both great by the way). I've heard there is a used bookstore somewhere on Richmond St but I haven't been able to find it. I also want to try some authentic Polish food and find a good local deli so any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Default Port

Richmond and Allegheny Streets have a lot of the businesses you're looking for.
On Richmond...
I like Syrenka Cafeteria-style for lunch and early dinner, order your pierogies how you like 'em, I recommend trying:
steamed cheese with onions
Across the street is a nice Polish Market "Krakus". Good frozen Borsht.
And just south of Syrenka is the big bookstore you are looking for, I believe it is painted lime-ish green, BIG !
On Allegheny...
The New Wave Cafe is great for a strange mix of oddly fantastic art, Polish Big Bottle Beer, and nice homestyle Polish cooking. There is a nice small deli across the street... I forget the name.
Other things I like about Port Richmond; the park next to I-95 for swimming and tennis, Re-Store architectural salvage, the Ceramic Shop [highly recommended for ceramic studios and classes], JOMAR, and admittedly - the new Target.

Default Tick-Tack?

Hey! I like the name, any relation to the title song in the show "weeds" or perhaps a more standard response, like the mints?

Port Richmond Books is near Syrenka, on the same side of Richmond Street. It is in an old movie theater. It has a cool old movie theater facade minus the marquee. Tell Greg the owner I said hi.

Default Thank you...

Huffnpuff - thanks for the great info. The Polish Big Bottle Beer sounds most interesting!

Canada - the name is actually a nickname and play on my last name. It has followed me since High School.

Scoats - Thanks....not sure how I've missed the bookstore. I can't wait to go and browse!

Ill have to go get that frozen borsht and give it a try. I usually make my own but its a pain.and too much for 1 person.
Jomar....lol I remember Jomar when it was on Jasper st wasnt it? I can't remember. All I know is i bought some good stuff there but you always had to watch for the irregulars, like holes in stuff and bad zippers ect...and the bargain basement...what a mess.

Default I'm Back....

I have more questions...

Does anyone know what hours the Krakus Market on Richmond Street is open. I've driven by a few times and it was always closed.

My Father is coming down to visit for Thanksgiving and he mentioned a Polish Dessert (which I can't remember the name of - bad daughter!) but does anyone have any input on the various Polish Bakeries in the area?

On another note, I will be trying the New Wave Cafe in the near future and will report back.
