Default Broadband Acces in Fishtown

I am moving to Mercer Street on May 24th. I was told by Verizon that DSL is not available on my new phone line . What are the broadband choices for people in Fishtown?

I just ordered DSL and I'm in Fishtown on Berks near Frankford. Maybe you should try calling back and talking with someone else.

I'm at York & Tulip and have Earthlink DSL, and my office has Verizon DSL at Dauphin & Tulip.

I'd definitely call back.

Even half a mile can make a difference when it comes to DSL (you have to be within a certain distance of the nearest signal repeater... or whatever it is).

You might want to try doing the availability check online (the box around the middle of verizon.com with "Verizon Online DSL" in big red letters). Otherwise, you might be able to get Cable broadband through Comcast (if not, I think they should be able to tell you who offers cable braodband coverage in your area).

I currently have cable internet from Comcast. I think there's something offered through Directv as well.

I will be moving to Mercer off of Norris ( the 800 block) and when I tried the online thing , it came back that it was unavailable. I will call the office directly. There is cable access broadband I guess but that is more expensive.

I'm 2 blocks away, in the 800 block of Livingston and have DSL through Verizon, though maybe the cable access makes the difference. A co-worker had a hell of a time getting DSL set up on the 700 block of Thompson, also near you. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. I look forward to my wife and I living in the city after 6 years in the suburbs. Sorry about the spelling.

Yes, I'll also warn you that getting DSL set up can be a real pain in the butt. I spent almost a week mucking around and speaking to various customer service people at Verizon before they finally fingured out that one of their routers wasn't working correctly and I wasn't doing anything wrong.

Once I got all that sorted out, however, I've been pretty satisfied with it. I think I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I strongly recommend purchasing a hardware router if you get any type of broadband so you won't have to worry so much about the new worms and viruses that appear every other week. I have a Netgear RT311 and have been happy with it, but I don't think you can get that model anymore. Verizon will only give you tech support if you have a Linksys router.

Yes, it can be a pain.

Three years ago we spent, no kidding, FOUR MONTHS getting ours set up at home... due to repeated screw-ups by Verizon. However, a year ago it only took about two weeks to get it at the office.
