Two years ago, with input from the community, New Kensington CDC began implementing a strategic plan for the transformation of Frankford Avenue into a place for artists and other residents to live, work, and enjoy. One piece of the Frankford Avenue Arts Corridor Plan is the placement of public art, such as the ArtRacks project, five original bike racks that also function as pieces of art.

Our latest endeavor began with the idea of making a quick, inexpensive, but pleasant change to blank or boarded facades while the corridor is still somewhat in transition. The Transitional Art (TART) Project highlights local talent and was done in conjunction with the City’s Mural Arts Program (www.muralarts.org).

Four buildings will serve as temporary hosts for the work of four local artists:

2020-24 Frankford Avenue- Philadelphia Iron, Simon Grigsby (Fishtown)
2011 Frankford Avenue- Giant Print Press, Bernie Wilkie (Port Richmond)
1867 Frankford Avenue- Shoe Heaven, Jeremy Wagner (East Kensington)
1811 Frankford Avenue- Antique Car and Train, Brad Carney (Fishtown)

Neighbors are invited to view the pieces with the artists on a free walking tour Friday, June 2nd @ 6:30pm, begining at 2020-24 Frankford Avenue, ending at 1811 Frankford Avenue.
